I need more knowledge

Basically, i've been taught alot in the past few months, and it isn't without its side effects.
I'm the kind of person who doesn't give up on a bad run, and when i'm on a job (any form of activity) i just can't stop "until the job is done".
I've got 2 very very talented mechanics teaching me at work, and i listen, ask and learn as much as i can before my questions irritate and my god have i learned!
I'm just wondering, when fixing bikes, what tricks, tips, fast fixes or clever skills do you use so i can apply them to my job? Or even in any trade or skill infact?

Non-Powdered latex gloves come for free when no one is looking. They can be used for almost anything by those among us who like blood, murder, etc but hate grime off of dinner plates, and touching cat food. (seriously, bovine blood is an acceptable substance, but looking at cat food can make me throw up)

What's gay about wearing latex gloves, saves spending ages going through the various different cleaning agents you have at your disposal trying to remove all the grime later on. I find they make my hands sweat after a while though and i get wrinkly fingers.

I can't think of much right now but one thing I have learnt, if you are dismantling several parts of the bike at the same time always keep the nuts and bolts for each different bit in seperate piles or pots. No matter how certain you are you can remember what goes where, you will forget, especially if you get distracted from the job and it's a few days before you can resume it.

Actually this is pretty bad habit of mine, start working on the bike in the yard and then start drinking beer... usually ends with a whole pile of shite lying around for a few days...

Latex allergy? I thought you was going to tell me that they dry out my hands, i've always got them on, like non stop and i've not had a bad reaction to them yet, how do you get a bad reaction to them?

Assuming you have all the basics sorted, it depends on the job you are doing but I'll often take photos for future reference, especially on bikes I haven't worked on before or when doing a major overhaul which will take several days/weeks.

Also make sure you do any required manual reading in advance, there is nothing worse than realising you need a gasket or part when you've already got a bike in bits. Not such an issue in a shop that carries spares in stock but it can be a pain when working on your own bike.

One other thing, always make sure you have the correct tools for the job, nothing makes a job go wrong quicker than trying to bodge with the wrong tools.
