A self cutting valve would be the easist way.
If you are good at plumbing you could simply cut the pipe and add a extra outlet for you washing machine.

As to the waste. Should be able to get both to feed into the same waste pipe.

I would agree with iooi, my brother has just has to do the same thing in our place but we had a washing machine and just fitted a dishwasher.

I could not live without a washing machine!!! Shocked

Washer dryers are less efficient when drying than a dedicated dryer, biggest problems with them come from people washing a full load (about 10/11 lb) and forgetting the dryer full load is 5/6lb.

If you are looking to keep the plumbing as simple as possible go for a washing machine that is cold fill only (mixed fill ones only draw about 10% of the water from the hot source anyway).

From memory zanussi did cold fill only on some models, most of the other makes offering this tended to be the premium brands (aeg, asko etc).

Not sure if I've been doing it wrong for years then, as I've always had a Y type valve arrangement and fed cold water only regardless of the washing machine Shocked

You are fine Tonka, its only the UK market which "demands" hot and cold fill, the European standard is cold only. Water which is too hot can obviously damage the clothes, so our machines take in a fair amount of cold before any hot is introduced.

As a modern washing machine only uses roughly 50 L of water in a wash there is no need to heat water in a boiler just to use a washing machine.

@Cov. Indesit do actually make some good machines, without physically seeing the model its hard to tell if this is a good one or not. One easy check is to look at the number of perforations in the drum, the more the better (lets water out easier during the spin). I remember hotpoint were one of the worst for this. JL 2 year guarrantee makes that a decent first machine.

Most washing machines are cold fill only these days I believe.

Even with hot fill you'll be taking in a lot of cold water from the pipework before you get any hot water in so hardly worth it in my opinion.

I'd recommend Zanussi as a reasonably priced manufacturer. Quiet machines that last a long time.

I'm tight when it comes to buying anything new so look for the best of the cheapest, personally I think Hotpoint make some good ones for the price, although I was looking for a washer/dryer rather than just a washer. On my second one (first one came with a rented flat) and not had any troubles. Sainsbury's online was the cheapest supplier I could find when I bought it.

Remeber the days when we used to manually fill our washer with hot/warm water.

There wasn't enough power to run the element, so that was disconnected and it we had to manually fill the mashine before giving it a cold feed for the rest of the process. Oh happy days....
