Bought this yesterday for 50 quid because wanted something to have a laugh on and a little project to tidy up.

Its a copy of a yam py90

90cc semi-auto
engine runs spot on (except for idle)
starts first kick every time

bad points -

No rear brake linkage or levers.
Front brake hardly works
Doesnt run on idle
Shock bottoms out way too easily
throttle cable fooked
plastics and all are shabby and could do with a respray
Footrest missing from one side and whats left has been bent pretty good

apart from that i thought for 50 quid it wasnt too bad
what you guys think?

https://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/oJaXo/Photo159.jpg

Stripped off all the plastics, tank and seat

seems alright for £50. Been looking for something similar myself, been scouring ebay for a while but its become a bit overpriced these days when it comes to bikes.
Look forward to seeing your progress Thumbs Up

Did you steal it yourself or was it stolen by the guy you bought from?

try looking in the local paper mate,
or pistonheads.com they got a few good ones on there
i was looking on ebay for ages too, was ideally looking for a more of a up to date pit bike but like you said they go for pretty silly money the good ones.
so ended up finding this one in the local paper.

cheers

i wouldnt have given a tenner for that like, sounds very dodgy and will cost atleast double its price to get to a safe standard...

looks like it uses the honda 90 ohcan engine which is a good un if you keep the oil clean and do the valve, timing chain adjustment. The design is proven back from the ealry sixties.the genny coils may be simple and might be able to add alighting coil ,or tap a litlle juice of the power coil to charge a small battery for minilights .bitz4bikes may have different coil plates. The frame looks cool but fit a bashplate to protect the head if u r roughing it up .the top yoke look biz, measure it up and compare with other chinese /jap ones .The rear suspension sounds blown, you can seals for the front forks and a brake rod.

It's only as dodgy as buying any other second hand item that doesn't come with a V5c Confused

Engine is worth £50. The rest, I would scrap.

Take the engine out, And fit it in a fiddy. I run a 110cc semi auto in mine. Cool Thumbs Up

Looks a bit like the 4 stroke 90cc version of the PW80 to me!
Think it was a TTR90 or something like that?

I reckon you could sort it out, but making a road bike out of it would be a real game id say! It would be better to use a DAX or road going monkey bike frame if that is your intention?

think im only going to make it into a bit of offroad fun to go around the field and all in i think mate, too much hassle to make it roadworthy i think.

Would love to do that but only problem is finding a rolling crf fiddy frame.. or would any pit bike style fiddy frame be ok to fit it in?
where did you get yours?
or did you buy yours part by part?

cheers all

I built mine from the ground up.
But Lawrence on the Pit bike forum (Pitbikingmad) is selling his RC50F Frame (It's a copy of the Honda CRF50 frame, same geometry).

Think he only wants about £30 for the frame, forks and swinger. I'm sure.

Yeah come on, you know you want to have everything in sight blasted and powercoated, with anything left chromed and polished to perfection! Laughing

I can see why you just want it as a bit of a fun bike, without making it road legal, but if i had a bike as small as that id so want to ride it on the road legally for a giggle! I blame Binge's TZR monster monkey bike for that though!

Id keep the existing frame too TBH, but changing all the suspension bushes and steering head bearings etc would be a good move IMO!

Laughing yeah i think i cant get away from the fact i gotta clean, sandblast, respray everything soon

Went to take her for a blast today, top end goes well but bottom end is really down on power and really cant figure out why.

Took the carb off and cleaned it all (found some water in there Confused)

Checked the flow of petrol to the carb

Re-gapped the sparkplug and cleaned it up

Think the idle screw might be fooked too but not sure

Anyone got any ideas what else to try?
Cheers guys

Finally got it sorted today, it was the tappets that needed adjusting.
Wheelies alot easier now Twisted Evil
New spark fitted,
cleaned air filter out,
new footrests arrived today,
and also gave it a wash over with the pressure washer and now that i know that its running all good i can start to tidy it up abit

stuff i still gotta do -

gotta sort out some rear brake linkage
start stripping stuff off and sandblasting it and then respraying
try and tidy up the wheels as they are rusty as shit
Respray and maybe reshape the plastics?

tickover is still bollocks but i think i need to get a new carb to sort it out as the screw doesnt make any difference to the rev's at all Laughing
so il look into getting one of those after christmas

will get some pics when i start stripping her down
cheers

Ojaxo, Il be keeping close tabs on your project - just bought a very similar bike to yours, put a thread up on it in here. Seem like decent enough little bikes. Have you redrilled the frame and moved the rear shock to get it sitting higher at the rear?

Thumbs Up
