my girlfriends dad came to pick her up and told me he'd been flashed doing 32 mph in a 30 limit, pretty crazy...are you meant to sit with your eyes fixated on the speedo incase you go a mile or two an hour above the limit?

32mph! that's not right. Mimimum would be 35 to allow for the 10% +2 wouldn't it?

Round here 35 is a speed seminar and 36 is points.

Even at just 10% that would be 33 mph.

Just read a segment in this months BIKE mag, saying that drivers spend 40% (i think that's the amount) looking at the speedo, not the road

...surely that's more dangerous....

Unlucky tho mate, maybe there was no film in the camera, fingers crossed!

...besides, most 30mph cameras are set a 35mph at the least.

wow, thats really weird then...thing is, this camera seems a bit hasty to take pictures of absolutely everything, im always seeing it go off whereas others I dont see...its strange because its also a duel lane road which is long and straight with no crossing...i have no clue why its a 30 limit

Yeah but I think the speed limit is given some tolerance because of inaccuracy in some car speedo's so even if he says it was 32, it could of been much more...

Speedos always overread - they never under read unless the gearing has been changed.

Chances are wither he was going faster than he says or it flashed at something random.

Neither will work. Both are too small and the camera won't pick them up. If you want to send a speed camera bananas, tie a metal bucket onto a length of rope, stand with your back to the camera and swing it around your head as fast as you can. The bucket is big enough to set the camera off, and send the local constabulary dozens of pictures of 'someone' swinging a bucket around their head on a bit of rope. Smile Or so I've heard. Wink

Does any one know whether the 14 day Notice of intent prosecution (NIP) still stands? This used to mean if you didn't receive the ticket within 14 days of the offence (actually as long as the police post it within 14 days, i heard) then the ticket becomes void. I usually pray 4 a 14 day postal strike when i think iv been caught. Rolling Eyes

Yes, the police have 14 days to serve (usually) the registered owner (R/O) with a notice of intended prosecution, this can be either verbally (in the case of a radar gun wielding copper) or by letter. NiP's are usually delivered by first class post and are normally treated as served the next working day. I've got a feeling that postal strikes are not taken in to consideration if delayed.

Even if someone else is driving, as long as that notice is served to the R/O, there is no time limit on the driver being notified.

That's what I understand to be the case, i'll check with work to clarify

Hi

There is no legal allowance. They could send you a ticket for doing 30.1mph in a 30 limit. There is a guideline of 10%+2mph but that is totally voluntary. A woman at work did get a ticket for 32mph in a 30 limit.

As to the 14 day rule, the ticket must be posted to normally arrive within 14 days (and must be sent 1st class, send it 2nd class and it is technically void). It doesn't matter if there is a postal strike as long as it would normally arrive within 14 days.

All the best

Keith

A friend got a ticket for 32 in a 30 - she was offered a driver education course for £60 and no points or £60 and 3 points, she took the course. This was in Northampton and was the second ticket in 2 weeks, she went to the police station to complain and thats when they offered her the course.

I regularly set off a camera whilst going in the opposite direction, so maybe that's what happened to your girlfriends dad.

A friend tells me there's a speed camera in Telford set to get anything over 30mph. Apparently it's controlled by a private contractor for the local council. So they say that the police guidelines of 10% + 2mph don't apply.

You could ask when the camera was last calibrated, but that may mean going to court, solicitors, etc.
