The missus works in a well known computer selling company. The one that hounds you when you go in and rips you off. Anyway she is merchandise staff and there was an incident.

The manager asked another member of staff lets say called "Julie" to get someone to sit in the security pod while they cashed up. "Julie" asked "Dave" to do it but he said no. The missus was standing at the tills and "Julie" asked her to just sit in the pod while she cashs up.

Just before closing a lad walks in and picks up a PS3 and walks out. The missus notices but theres not much she can do about it. She doesn't know how to operate the cameras or the security pod.

She brings it to the attention of the shop floor staff and then "Julie" comes running over shouting her mouth off at my girlfriend. "Julie" then goes and tells the manager who is furious at the missus. She is being threatened with disaplinary or even the sack.

I think it's a little bit unfair for a disaplinary let alone the sack. My girlfriend isn't trained to be in there. She was asked by a senior member to do that job. "Julie" should really have got another member of staff who was qualified to do it rather than someone who isn't. My girlfriend shouldn't be taking the blame.

So just wondering what peoples thoughts are really. Can they give her a disaplinary/sack her. What is the craic with theft's from shops who takes the blame.

The shop shuts at 8 but the girlfriend finishs at 11. The manager and sales staff all packed up and left at 8. Didn't seem that bothered about reporting it to the police or nothing.

Cheers. Carl.

Ok lets get a few things into the picture.
Is your G/F trained in the use of the equipment in the pod?
Is your G/F trained in the appropriate action to take when dealing with a shoplifter?
Did your G/F alert someone of the shoplifter?
Why did the first person to be asked refuse to do the job?
Is that person trained to do that job?
Why was the pod not manned by the appropriate person in the first place?
Who normally mans he pod?
Why didn't they man it?

As long as your G/F wasn't in collusion with the theft, there is absolutely nothing they can do if she has had no training, with documental proof, in using the equipment or in dealing with shoplifters.
If anything this Julie person should be hung drawn and quartered for her actions.
The most that they can do is to train your G/F on how to use the pod and what to do in the event of a theft.

No she is a merchandiser/stockist person. Sorts orders and deliverys out etc etc.

Is your G/F trained in the appropriate action to take when dealing with a shoplifter?

No she wasnt trained on this.

Did your G/F alert someone of the shoplifter?

Yep she brought it to julies attention straight away.

Why did the first person to be asked refuse to do the job?

No idea.

Is that person trained to do that job?

No idea. But he is my gf's supervisor.

Why was the pod not manned by the appropriate person in the first place?

He goes home early.

Who normally mans he pod?

Bloke called harry. He's a security guard.

Why didn't they man it?

He was at home.

Thats what I said to my Gf. It was upto julie to put someone qualified in the pod and not my Gf. She is quite upset about this because of the way the manager and Julie spoke to her.

The bit that get's me is the lad would have had to walk past Julie with the PS3 in the first place. She could have easily stopped/confronted him. Atleast brought it to the attention of the 5+ males working there.[/b]

Shouldn't Harry be there until the store closes?

thieves aren't stupid, and if Harry does this every night then they'll take advantage of it and rob you blind at the end of the night and the manager only has himself to blame for not organising the guards shift with the guards employer.

Without an SIA licence you should NOT be in the cctv pod or even using any of the controls.

Harry is a law unto himself. All the times i've been in which is quite alot. It's only up the road. I've seen him in the pod once. He's either walking around talking to people, or outside smoking.

Those chairs in the PC world Pods are very high up normally, was your wife just meant to be watching from there or actually using the cameras?

She was put there to watch over the cashup in case of any "Till Snatch's" by any of the customers remaining in store. As soon as the scrote came in was manager or whoever it was informed so she could be aware or even stop what she was doing until he was gone?

I'm not a geek Laughing I was employed by Sabrewatch for 5 years and then headhunted to be a Loss Prevention Investigator for another company.

I had one of the best arrest records for my City and was know for thinking "out of the box" when being on duty, loved it.

The lad walked in and picked the ps3 up. My gf thought he looked a little bit dodgy he walked down to the till area and straight past julie. At that point my gf shouted to julie who just stood there and then shouted back at my gf.

She was just told to sit in the pod that was it. She couldn't use the cameras to follow the lad on the monitors because she doesn't know how. So i doubt there will be any good cctv footage other than the static cameras.

Robby i'm hardly going to tell you which one. But they did a stock take a few weeks ago and there was a load of stuff missing. Over 30 grand's worth of printers missing. The whole bill came to about £140 grands worth of gear missing from that one store.

I was in there and set the motion alarm off on a mac computer. The bloke came upto me and said excuse me mate and I thought fuck i'm going to get kicked out lol. He leaned over and put the code in to reset the alarm.

Didn't even ask as to why I was picking pc's up. Confused

They were more bothered about the PS3 because they have recently had the chairman of the company in going off it about the amount missing from that one shop.

No idea mate he is a waste of time. The only thing in there possibly unstealable is the display computers and laptops. Everything else just has a standard security strip on them. The white plastic thing with metal strips in them. It wouldn't have made much difference anyway he just walked out. It's not like he tried to hide it lol

I can see it now;
N30 frantically searches for his dusty badge and magnifying glass... The perfect setup, the perfect opportunity, one last bust, one last perp to apprehend... this time he will go out with a bang.

Sunderland. That's a long way from London, and a shithole. Hardly worth the effort for just one PS3.

You know what this means. This means I'm going to have to clear out the boot of the Jag.

I've worked in plenty of retail units. If they put out live PS3 or XBOXs then they'll get bumped, tagged or not. HR & health and safety get all shirty if you try and stop then too, though I always did Laughing can't see how they can expect an untrained female to prevent any theft tbh

It sounds suspiciously like a set up. Like someone in charge was in league with the charver who nicked the PS3.

It sounds like they set your GF for a fall. No tag on the PS3, no trained person in the camera room. Everyone else going home early.

Sounds incredibly sus to me.

soundslike inside job , there was a problem at cashing up ,there was a problem reporting it .If there was no alarm tab on the box it looks like a setup. Tell your mrs to report suspicions to head office before the same insider wipes the security video.go to police if seniors start getting abusive and explain suspicions.
