I've never really been sure and kinda do it in a reactive manner ... but what is the (well your) official line on when cards should be sent/handed out?

I say this as I got 2 in the post last week (i.e. end of Nov), which I felt was a bit early ... but then I tried to think when one SHOULD be sending/getting cards ... and I couldn't really answer the question ...

To be honest. I don't. Guess I'm not old and boring enough to bother with such unpersonal things for people you either don't see anymore or don't really give a shit about.
Give one to the missus and that's about it. (and to those heading their cursor for the reply button to say "Give one to the missus, eh? Do you also get her a card? Fnar Fnar" I have anticipated that response).
If I want to contact someone during the festive period it will be a text for a pint and a chat.

I never do them.

I used to diligently write them all out, and then at the right time (whatever that is, I never did know, either) I always seemed to keep forgetting them or losing them.

But people keep giving them to me, so I just say thanks and nowadays I don't do that embarrassed shuffle and "I forgot mine today" ... I just say thanks.

I think most people hate "having" to give them out but they dare not break the tradition. I've just come to sort of bend the tradition over the years to suit my own purposes so that I just don't give them out.

I'd be a bit upset if I didnt get any though Laughing

Bah! Spoil all our fun why don't you!

I really can't be arsed with xmas cards, and I hate the fact that I'm passed them at work because it;s like an automatic "I expect one back" kind of thing (which, of course, is never given). I get the missus a card, and my mom as well otherwise she moans........which brings me to a point......

I remember one year I bought my mom a top of the range digital camera that was simple to use and cost more money than I was comfortable with, but it's the old girl and she didn't scrimp on me for 18+ years so I figured I'd get it her cuz I'm nice like that.

Well, she opens up her camera and is pleased, then starts looking around, I'm like "whats wrong?" she says "Have I got a card?" "You mean a memory card, yeah it's already in it" "No I mean a xmas card" "Errrr no" "Oh" followed by a moan how it would be nice to at least have a card blah blah blah. I'm stood there dumbfounded.

Someone please explain to me why a card is so fucking important. I just put it down to her getting old and just finding stuff to moan about for the sake of moaning, but I've seen this elsewhere as well. Women and cards...... I may understand many complex intricacies of the scientific world, but this is one correlation that will elude me for eons.

They like cards because you have to write lovey dovey stuff in them. Last valentines day I got the girlfriend a card as you do. I opened mine to find two full pages of writing which is nice. It shows she loves me. It even had a motorbike on the front so brownie points for the missus. She then opened hers to find the words.

Happy Valentines day Sugar Tits XXX

She wasn't too impressed.

Haha, oh too familiar.
Though one time I made a little doodle of the little characters on the front cover (representing her and myself) in various positions of muckiness, culminating in a money shot onto the female character's tits. I done this because I knew she usually shows her mum the cards I get her.
Turns out it wasn't the missus that got embarrassed when she showed her mum the card anyways! Embarassed

I think the next card I get the missus will have loads of pages glued inside. So when you open it and flick the pages its a dirty prono flicka card. She won't appreciate it though.......bloody women!!!!

I always get stupid cards because I hate the whole sending of them. I don't understand people who spend ages picking a card out. It's going to be read once, displayed for a week and then binned.

I walked into a shop and couldn't be bothered to put effort into getting a birthday card for the missus' friends 25th birthday. So I told the assisstant I want a birthday card with an age on any age at all. I ended up with a happy 35th birthday from kermit the frog card. Its more memorable than a nice one innit.

I guess it is just the next level back from expecting a gift to be wrapped ...

To get a gift unwrapped would be a bit odd and take the shine off the gift, I guess the card is just another precursor to a gift ...

Also your mum will have a special place on her mantelpiece where she keeps 'family' cards ... it means a lot to her if there is a space where yours belongs ....

To be honest, I can see why your mum was disappointed/confused ...

rather than offend one person by not sending them a card, I offend everyone equally by sending them to no-one.

WTF?
What special place?

Fux ache, my place is so stuffed full of fucking bric a brac (HOW did I accumulate all this clutter and attach such sentimental importance to it?!!!) that there's no PLACE for cards. I think I have three or four that have been there for YONKS (quite literally over a year in one case) ... and I always have to squeeze the new ones in somewhere between the matrioshka dolls, air filters earrings, make-up, decorative lighters that I no longer use, the receipt jar, and the Onken-biopot doubling as a pen jar (and that all is only a small percentage of my clutter).

The only thing that has a special place in my chaotic living room filing system is my framed picture of Anita and her dad. In fact, I have two of those. One on the telly and one on the desk shelf. I would never remove them to add some transient card. Although I dont throw them out for years. I put them all one inside the other for each event (birthday, mothers day, christmas, etc) and stash them away in a box. Several years later when I have a major spring clean I *might* throw them out, but only if they are averagely 10 years old.

Smile

I have mine wrote out but not sent yet, probably be next week till I get stamps and the week after that till I get near a post box. I have family elsewhere I sent them to every year and a few choice friends. Lot of my family here get them handed to them, I would be out a fortune on stamps sending all of them.
