Water got in my 400d

im sure canon will do it, for monies though, if you out of warranty (i imagine so as 400d is a few years old model now!)

I got it in february through ebay. the seller was argos clearance and it was new. Not sure on the warranty. I think it was 6 months.

I didn't think that would be covered.

hmm, thinking about it, water in screen isnt really covered by warranty usually.. its more of your own fault (im guessing?) than someone wrong from the manufacturer...

worth a shot though.. could say it just stopped.

I know someone with a 400D which got rained on and ruined the screen.

I think they were quoted around £130 to repair it.

just how wet did it get?

if it was submerged your looking at a hefty repair bill.

ive repaired mobile phones that have been through a cycle in the washing machine by stripping them down and leaving in the airing cupboard for a few days then cleaning them up with pcb cleaner.

I got pretty wet at the top of mount snowdon. Not submerged but pretty wet on the outside. My own fault but I was happy I made it up the top and took pic after pic.

130 abit pricey,. think i should invest in a enw camera?

if you can get it repaired for £130 then id do that as youll lay out more for a new camera.

if your not feart then you could take it apart and dry it out.

Would I likely need new parts? I forgot to mention that it was wet a while ago. I just couldn't be bothered to touch it when I saw the screen dying on me

£130 is doable though.

I bought it with 2 lenses for £389 but maybe can get a body for a lot cheaper. If it's close to £200 then perhaps I should just buy a new one. I shall look it up. Thank you for helping me guys

youll probably pay around 2 or 3 hundred for a body.

Almost certain that the warrenty wouldn't cover it.

Quite a few places around that will do camera repairs. Not sure who is local to you. 2 I have used are:-

If its just the screen thats fooked then you can grab replacement ones of the ebay for £25 - £30, does it all still work etc with the vid out ??

Open it up as much as possible (Take off/out everything you can and leave any latches open) then put it in a very warm airing cupboard or on top of a radiator (with a towel at the bottom)

Leave it for a few days and see what happens. You never know!

got a quote from euro hi tech for £129.

I forgot to mention that it got wet a while ago when i went camping. I was kinda depressed so didn't touch it until now.

It would only be worth me opening it if I could repair it with parts I guess and I'll admit I'm useless at fixing things but seem great at breaking

Should never turn it back on after water damage for at least a good few days. Also most electrical devices have litmus paper in now days to see water damage so warranty probably wont work.

Yeah I think that was my fault. Anyone know if the 400d has litmus paper in it? I'm gonna send it to them and see if it is under warranty. I'm just gonna say it didn't work.

It's argos clearence on ebay so perhaps they may fix it. Big company and all.

Don't know about a moisture detector in there. Possible, although the 400D is a pretty old design now so I suspect not.
