Got a thread running on how i paid £4.59 for an unlocking code but the website is basically a scam, you pay the money & they don't send a code they just send you unlocking software which you can get for free.

So, made a dispute in Paypal but it's a virtual item so they've closed the case saying they can't do anything.

The seller won't reply to any emails as now paypal have closed the case, he's got no reason too.

What's left? It's only £4.59 but that's not the point.

It's quite well known as being a bit of a scam website, should fo checked before, 99.9% i do check but didn't think on this one.

When I sold a virtual item paypal immediately ok'd the dispute and took 400$ out of my account!

Wankers.

So does anyone have any ideas of how to write an email in these circumstances? Threatening to contact police, trading standards etc, but i'm guessing he'll just ignore them.

It's not about the money, it's the cheek of it, especially when you read quotes on their site like "Avoid scam unlock sites. Many sites such as unlocksearch.com only provide useless reports which will not unlock your W890i"

That's just taking the piss. And knowing full well Paypal can't do anything, their probably laughing.

PayPal are a bunch of arse raping twats. I refuse to use anything to do with them anymore. Fuckwits.

Try doing a www.whois.net/ lookup,see if you can get anything from there

Totally agree. Didn't think they were that bad for buying but selling with the charges & withdrawal times are just awful.

Got their address & it says their in Sussex, 40 miles from me. Whether or not it's their actual address is a different story.

I dont see what you are complaining about. You wanted to unlock, you paid your money, and you can now unlock.

You realised afterwards that you could do it for free, but it was you that chose to pay.

I paid for a service, i didn't get that service, the service was to receive an unlocking code, i didn't get that unlocking code.

I thought this software gives you the unlocking code, and they gave you the software.

It's irrelevant, if you could have got it free if you had known about it beforehand.

People sell CDs of motorbike workshop manuals over ebay, that are available over the net for free, but if you dont know where to find them, its worth buying them over ebay. They provide a useful service, for people who dont have the knowledge.

No the software doesn't unlock my phone, nor does it contain a code.

Exactly, people list workshop manuals for sale that are free on the net, when someone buys these manuals, they get exactly that, a manual.

Now what you're failing to see is that i didn't get this 'manual' that i paid for, i got something completely different.

Ah right ok. You didnt mention that in your first post. It sounded like they had supplied software that enabled you to get a code for your phone.

It unlocks phones, just not my model. Even if it did support my phone the scam is still that they do this to every buyer, they say they can't give you a code, but here's some software for you to unlock it.

Well it wouldnt be a scam, if it did work with your phone.

If paypal aren't interested, try to raise a dispute with your credit card issuer instead (assuming it was paid with funds from a credit card). Rather than explaining anything in detail right at the start, just tell them that the item you bought was not supplied. Credit card companies are jointly liable for transactions over £100 (and less than £30k), but they may get involved in lower transactions too.

I'm pretty sure that it still would be a scam if it did work. The seller isn't providing the service that they are advertising, which in this case is an unlocking code. Not a freeware software.

Cheers, i phoned my bank today but started of by saying i didn't get what i paid for, the site is known for scamming on the web etc. They said they can't get involved but i should seek legal advice blablabla.
