Sometimes the police are wankers! On my way home last night I came to a section of dual carriage way where I usually wind it on a bit up to the dizzy speeds of 55-60mph when I noticed a biker in the traffic put his hand out. This made me look round and I saw a traffic cop further in the road so I slowed down to 40mph, the limit on this road, and then pulled into the inside lane a little later on.
Around three miles later I noticed an RS125 caning it, I could tell by the noise it was making, so I gave him the hand signal for "slow down" to save his arse. No sooner had I done this the fuzz put his blue lights on and pulled me over. After numerous questions about "Is this your bike", "How long have uou been riding" he lectured me about not warning people of police in the proximity and to keep both hands on the handlebars at all times, especially as being a learner.
The hands on handlebars I can kind of agree with but not warning fellow bikers so they can pull them He was a right swug twat who was looking over the bike for the slightest fault but it was watertight. ____________________ Too skint to buy a bike |

Totally agree with you mate, although you're not meant to warn other riders I would have done the same thing, maybe checking your mirrors a bit more might have helped.
Glad he couldn't do you for anything. |

Unlucky mate. Next time just shake your head and hope he understands. Either that or get one of those LED message boards attatched to the bike with the words 'Police ahead, bikers slow down' scrolling accross. |

Hand on handlebars at all times. Errr, no. I think the police riding manual (Motorcycle Roadcraft: The Police Rider's Handbook) suggests a handsignal can alert other road users, especially on roundabouts. I'm sure anyone who's done Advanced Rider Training could confirm this but as a sweeping statement it's untrue. |

You could just have said that you were telling the other bike to slow down because you thought he was going too fast for the road conditions and hadn't realised that there was a police trap there as well...

Should have told him that as you obviously hadn't seen him, you weren't warning the other bike he was there. In fact you were so outraged at the speed the other bike was travelling, you were merely telling him he was an idiot and should slow down. "I mean speed limits are there to save lives officer".
Edit: Damn you tgabber you beat me to it!

Lucky your bike is all above board, not much you can do but take your docs to them and be done with it :<
Today on the way to work I saw some "Census" signs or something, then a lay by full of cars being quizzed by what seemed to be policemen, dunno what it was about, gave me a shock though. ____________________ 04 Suzuki GSX-R 600 K4 - Sex on wheels :>

It was just opposite the BP garage between the Exminster bypass/matford roundabout.
I was just worried they were going to make me later for work if they stopped me, that or check my bike over and give me a producer.
I need to find/get a replacement insurance cert, so I was like "shit, what do they want :<" ____________________ 04 Suzuki GSX-R 600 K4 - Sex on wheels :>

As Carvell said, the police are only there to make sure you stop. Can you imagine rush hour traffic pulling over to have a chat with the nice council workers otherwise?
They have done a few around here in the past but I've never seen them pull a bike over for a chat. Suppose it's a good thing and a bad thing in a way, I couldn't be asked to stop, but we are road users too so we should have an opinion. |

"But....but..... I got the most terrible cramp in my arm officer" and promptly burst into tears
Police will pull you over if they feel like it... I got pulled over because they thought I was the bike-owner's little brother taking it for a spin. They were rather surprised when I took my helmet off ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

I'm now confused.
When did warning other drivers become an offence. I'm told in the older days the AA patrolmen used to do it. Now even councils put details of where they're having mobile traps on a web site (well Humberside do, click here to check). So is this not warning drivers? Are they then not breaking the same law? |

No, no, no Scratchy. Not really in the same ball park, is it. But you do have a point.
The reality is that you're done for speeding, even if it's marginally over sometimes. Because it's intended, primarily for revenue generation over the safety angle. If the police were more lenient and excercised some discretion. Particularly when it's a technical infringement, then I'd give this some credibility.
I've been done for speed 4 times since 1984, sometimes for way over, sometimes for just over. Reasoning with them even when it's just over, you realise, is futile when they intend to book you from the outset.
A friend of mine was booked once and when his plea's for leniency were being emphatically declined he said... "Well get on with it then and book me and stop wasting my fucking time" Right on, go down fighting! |
