We're getting close to new year resolutions. A time of unfulfilled promises for most. But i don't wanna talk about resolutions, i want to know when and where was your 1st ciggie.

Mine was aged 12 going halfs on a pack of Capstans (unable to find web image)
We climbed a tree and smoked them amongst the canopy. Stashed them in a hole for later visits.

Mine was at 15 in the girls toilets at school with my girlfriend and one of her friends. I'm one of the ones who did only start smoking to try and impress my peers Sad

It was a Regal kingsize if I remember rightly and we used to buy them in singles from the shop near her house.

Mine would have been aged 13 ish .. the corner shop across from my school used to sell single cigarettes from 'split packs' (ie: sell smokes to kids for much more than the original pack).

We would all troop in after school and buy one for the bike ride home.

Think I was 12 or 13. My mates and mum smoked and I didnt so I went and bought a pack of regal filter and went down to the beach and sat on my own smoking, I smoked the whole pack so i could get used to it. Then went to the arcade and threw up all over it. I completely whitied! Didnt turn me off though. Confused

Dont smoke anymore wish I hadnt of started but I wanted to fit in and be cool, had no idea they where bad for you as my mum and gran would gas the car out with me and my bro in it all the time when we where growing up. Sick

First ciggie was shared with a mate when I was around 7. I was nearly sick and it gave me a bad chest for days. I didn't like it. Started smoking properly at 16. Regal kings.

Some mates and I went on a daytrip to Rangitoto Island
https://davidwallphoto.com/images/%7BCB99E029-B5C8-4A42-A4E7-FD356FAD0863%7D.jpg (yonder island on horizon)

We got the ferry from that jetty in the foreground of the picture, I guess we were about 12 or so at the time.

The island is kind of mostly precarious slopes of volcanic scoria ... (well it was back in the early 70s, dunno about now, LOL)

https://img5.travelblog.org/Photos/31158/238709/f/1895024-rangitoto-island-0.jpg

... and it was a bugger to get up the pathways, but when we got to the top they stopped for a fag ... and I tried one then. My two mates smoked but I didn't, so I tried one, they were Pall Mall Menthol, and I remember the smell of the lit matches (?sulphur?) as they kept trying to light them in the breeze on the top of the peak, LOL. Took us ages to get three fags lit.

It was a fab view (not changed much from these pics I googled for, by the looks of it) ... and I always associate menthol fags with that trip, even now.

Given up now.
Prolly just as well.

Doubt if I could ever make it back up the summit of that island now, anyway.

At 11 or 12 I was at home alone and my dad had left a pack on the table. Original Marlboro reds.
I just thought what's all the fuss about and tried one. Didn't inhale properly until one of the older guys in school showed me "how it's done"
I thought it was cool at the time cause it gave me an excuse to hang on the corner with the teenagers...
Nearly impossible to stop now 8 years later

Indeed it was 10p for a loose and you could even buy them in your school uniform! I remember even pretending the packs where for my mum Laughing In secondary school you got served if you had a senior shirt on which was obviously different from juniors who where under 16. £3 a pack of b&h rip your throat out spanish fags to.

17... Club WOW in sheffield. 'twas a Morrisons (scunthorpe) night out. I'd somehow convinced the organiser that I was 18 (told him to check with payroll, he believed me and never checked).

I was more than a little tipsy and my mate wilko had a cig on the go (9years ago, pre smoking ban). I nicked it off him and smoked it to the filter. Everyone was amazed that I didn't cough and splutter (including me!) so I had another, and another. Think they were mayfairs. I bought a pack of Regals from the cig machine and smoked a few of them on the way home (the coach driver didn't mind us all smoking on the bus). Next day I wandered into the smokers room, which was on the end of the canteen, and lit a cig. The ambiance in there was soo much better than the main canteen so I carried on smoking just so I could spend my breaks in there!

I don't think I've ever been fully addicted though. I tend to smoke for a few months, with cravings and all and then I almost get bored of it and stop. I frequently go months without even a craving.

Drew

Oh and forgot to add, that same night I snogged the married bird from customer serivces as well as wilkos ex!

When I was about eight years old me and my mate thought that it would be a good idea to steal some ciggies from the local filling station. When a car pulled in to be filled up and the garage owner left the kiosk unattended, in we went. We nicked several packs of ciggies and loads of Green Shield Stamps (does anybody remember them?) We had no idea how to light them (the cigs not the stamps) and I remember balancing individual cigarettes on a wall and offering matches in their direction in an attempt to light 'em.
When I learned how to light them properly and I took my first real drag I thought that I was going to die. That was my first and last attempt at smoking. Smoking is for losers Thumbs Down

Yes it was 10p for two cigarettes from our local shop. I started smoking when I was about 14, though as it was soon ascertained, I could buy packets for all from the off-licence because I was tall.

I remember going in, and dragging various monies out of different pockets saying "10 B&H with this money, 10 Berkeley Reds with this money, a bottle of White Lightening with this money, 10 Regal with this money...."

The shop owner did not bat an eyelid. Smile

Mine was one of these in 1990:

https://www.cigarettespedia.com/images/a/a6/Park_drive_special_virginia_s_20_b_england.jpg

The tipped ones were nice and they stopped being sold in the late 90's.

I gave up smoking in 2005.

At the age of 20 I have yet to try a cigarette, I have never wanted to take up smoking so I have never tried one. I am told at around the age of 2/3 I walked up to a person in the local paper shop and asked him why he smoked and did he know it was bad for him Laughing

Even when I have been really drunk (as in can't remember it, told in the morning) and my friends offered tried to get me to smoke a fag, I have adermently (can't figure our correct spelling this will have to do!) turned it away.

11, at the youth club, didn't touch them again until 16-17 when the John Cleese giving up adverts were on TV - the withdrawal symptoms seemed so funny that me and a friend decided to get hooked then give up. I 'gave up' easily, she didn't - I was then a social smoker (only in pubs and normally only other peoples!). At about 21 my girlfriend smoked, and I just joined in more and more often until I was properly hooked, took me numerous attempts over 5 years to give up - the thing that finally worked for me was hypnosis, based on the recommendation of new scientist. I'm still not sure whether it was the hypnosis itself or the fact I'd spent £120 and it damn well better work!
