Two weeks, two accidents. My fault both times Sad

1st, roundabout. Took it too fast for the weather conditions, lost it on the wet. Was a rainbow pattern afterwards but I think I may have caused that. Embarassed

2nd. Changing lanes to enter a bus lane, a car (car 1) pulls out in front of the car (car 2) just off to my right. Car 2 swerves half into the bus lane, I try to avoid it, and aquaplane through a puddle. should've seen the car at the junction and shouldn't have undertaken at speed.

GZ's not too happy, nice scuffed exhaust, dented tank, my headlight's wonky and the rear brake lever's sitting 90 degrees anticlockwise to where it should be.

Lesson's been learnt and all that, but what can I do in terms of tyres to make the bike grip better in the wet?

Also, anyone else fallen foul of the recent shitty weather so I don't feel like such a pillock? Embarassed

Went past a stopped bus on the approach to a mini roundabout; concentrating on the bus not pulling out and didn't realise the car in front had stopped at the roundabout. Hit the brakes, rear locked and slid me up the road - just managed to release and get hold of it all again in time to stop me from smacking through the guy's tailgate.

Oops

Must admit I've done things like that before. I love my bike but I'm not sure I'm treating her right...

Glad your ok and don't worry what the bike looks like to much, the battle scars will give it character Thumbs Up

As you have already identified speed and obs has been the major factors in both incidents, changing tyres won't necessarily help that much. Stick your tyre make and model up and I'm sure someone can maybe suggest an alternative though.

On every one of my bikes I've left the tyres on a lot longer than I should have wear wise ( because I'm very tight ) and so far I haven't come close to having an off. I put this down not to any riding talent but to the fact that I have a healthy respect for the weather and drastically alter my riding style.

Nice to see someone being critical of their own riding to.

I've just got the stock ones from the factory AFAIK. I'll check in the morning when I can see what I'm doing and edit the post.

While it does seem like there are serious problems with you're riding (or perhaps your description exaggerates); factory tyres are sometimes really really crap. So it might be worth getting some sports touring type doo da's.
I really like my Bt 45's

I've booked myself a days training for next weekend, hopefully that should make any/all of my shortcomings visible. Tread's a bit worn on the front, but I shouldn't imagine that that caused the accident, good old driver error Embarassed

Edit: Foot was hurting a lot, took myself up the A+E last night, I've broken three toes on my right foot. Suppose I deserve it Sad

don't take it too hard on yourself, could have been way more serious... you're doing the right thing getting some instruction, sounds like you need someone to help with your observations etc.

as for the crappy weather conditions, happens to the best of us, especially at this time of year - you just have to be way more cautious than you would in nicer weather, especially at junctions and roundabouts etc.

hope the toes heal soon and you get back on the saddle asap! Thumbs Up
