This weekend my Brothers friend took me and my Bro to a private sand quarry just outside Guildford. He has a 250 SX and a YZ250, we were just using the latter as my brothers friend thought it would be better for a couple of beginners.

So following a long weekend of muddy fun my Bro is now tempted to get a bike, now I just need to use my powers of persuasion to push him off the fence! His friend has recommended we get a 2t as engine maintenance is more tricky on the 4 strokes. Personally after having a go on his 250 SX I would love my bro to go for a single but I'm no expert, so thought I would ask the BCF crew their opinions on the matter?

Thanks

250SX is available in 2 stroke and 4 stroke.
The only multi-cylinder dirt bike in common use is the rather expensive Aprilia.
I would personally go for a 250 or 300cc 2 stroke enduro bike. These generally have a more friendly power delivery than the 2 stroke motocross bikes, are still easy to use and don't weigh much more than the motocross bikes - about the same as a 4 stroke 'crosser.
A lot less hassle to get them road-registered and a lot come registered already.

Ooops, got my bikes mixed up there, I actually had a ride on the YZ which I thought was a 4t Single?

Thanks for the info G!

They will all be singles, just may be 2 or 4 stroke singles.
You probably rode a YZ250F, which is a four stroke 250 that tends to race with 125cc 2 strokes (now upped capacity to 150cc in some places.)
A 2 stroke 250 (which the SX probably was) is a much more agressive machine. As I say, the enduro version (250 EXC) has a much more linear and less-scary power delivery, though will still give a very good 'kick' if you do make use of the throttle Smile.

Whilst that and the other points are true, it also means that enduro bikes tend to be more pricey for any given age and condition! Thumbs Down
