So i've deceided to spend a bit of cash on modernising my old 1991 CBR 600 F and bringing it into the 21st centry with a few cheap mods.

First of all i will be converting the standard twin bulb tail light into into a LED one. I looked around for a ready made LED tail light but they were going for over £50 and were made of that horrible clear chavvy plastic.

Instead i purchased some 10mm Red LEDs from Ebay for £6 delivered. They were prewired with Resistors and rated for 12V which saved me considerable time from not having to solder resistors onto every single LED.

https://img130.imageshack.us/img130/5721/p1000725.jpg

Anyway, i then picked up a cheap matrix board from Maplins, you could use any old peice of plasic infact, but i found that the holes in the matrix board helped me position the LED's and keep them inline.

https://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2742/p1000730a.jpg

After all the LED's were in place, they were glued on and the wires soldered together. I later attached some Bullet connectors and tidied it all up with some heat shrink.

Tinted the front light and indicators.

After

Total cost of LED Tail light and Light tinting. £14.50

Next week i will be prepairing the subframe for the underseat exhaust. The linkpipe is being made up at a shop for £90. The rest i will be doing myself such as the fixtures, muffler, heat shielding and such.

I will also be repraying the wheels and rearsets aswell tidying up a few other areas.

Does your rear light show a running light and a brighter brake light?

There is a seperate LED strip at the top for the brake light, which i forgot to mention. If you look closely this picture you might be able to see it. Its clear plastic and under the rear Grab/Passenger rail.

https://img402.imageshack.us/img402/3383/p1000746.jpg

When i have more time next week i will redesign the main circuit to work as a brake light. I ran out of time for today so just used a generic LED strip instead.

Haha. Yeah it is pretty chavvy. I quite like it though. Just preference i guess. I just like the way it matches the tinted screen.

If i turn the main beam on you can't really tell its there.

Will it pass an MOT with a tinted front light? I have no idea what the rules are in this sort of stuff.

Anyway i was going to add a Front LED fog light today but the weathers been to bad. Maybe tomorrow.

I call neither chavvy man but that's just personal opinions Very Happy

As long as the headlight omits light I don't think it's a failure . In my youth I got hold of a can of spray on paint for headlights and did them blue Rolling Eyes . Safe to day I got pulled 2 mins after applying it Laughing

Their advice was as long as it's not interfering with the colour of the light being shown then it isn't an issue . You wont have that issue being black , just have to make sure the light isn't greatly reduced I guess Thumbs Up

I dont see how a MOT station can tell exactly by how much percentage the light is reduced ( without having another of your bike to compare ) . I'd ask the garage you use before hand though .

Is there a light for your numberplate? Bulbs on the back are normally white and used to light the plate aswell hence the red cover. LED's normally have a poo field of visibility so you may need to add some white ones pointing down to light up the plate.

Indeed. I will be adding some 10mm Plain Led's for the plate when i next take the tail light out to add the brake light functionality. Hopefully at the end of the week. I also need to move the entire board forward as inside the plastic cover there is a wavvy pattern to disapate the light. Im not sure how to explain this correctly, but what happens is that it gives the effect that its one large light and not many singular LED's, the camera pics them up very well but in real life it looks no where near as clear.

Hopefully moving the LED's closer will mean the light is more focused and dissapated through less of the pattern giving that blended light look.

Unless you're slapping lots of tacky carbon fibre on a GSXR 1000, no, they won't reply. It's still more interesting to read this than that though.

Agree, my mate just got a 1990 CBR600F for £350 that we've been sorting out for him to ride when he finally passes his test.

Edit, When did you get this CBR? what happened to the XT?

This CBR was my first big bike. The XT was actually only bought a few months ago.

Anyway some pics.

Picked up this universal exhaust tip from Ebay for £10

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260515157772&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1182

https://img691.imageshack.us/img691/2104/20122009065.jpg

Then pretty much stripped everything down, removed the passenger pegs, Rails, Repainted the swing arm, Hugger, Rear calliper, Grab Rail, Subframe and such. Fogged the rear light, made a licence plate holder out of some sheet metal etc.

https://img341.imageshack.us/img341/9126/20122009063.jpg[/url]

As i said, i was going to post a step by step guide on what i did but could not be bothered in the end due to lack of interest. Spent hours making the thread on the restoration of my XT 600 and only got a few replies.

Anyway for those of you that are reading, enjoy.

That was the plan. They are sanded down and ready to be primed i've just not gotten round to it yet. Will hopefully get it done after Christmas.

Quote:

About the same as my old can since it was already a stubby with no baffling. I can imagine it would be a clear improvement over the stock exhaust system performance wise. Tbh maybe a bit too loud, need to add one of those removable baffle attachments at some point.

Still need to raise the rear shock and add passenger pegs.

As you can see, there's not much clearance on the linkpipe and often scrapes the hugger.

Thanks for the comments.

Thats a bit of a bitchy remark chives.
I dont like it tbh. It looks like a 17 year old lad has crashed his car and the bits left over he put on his cbr600f. The LED strip on the grab rail is actually horrid. Sorry if you can't take that comment but its just what it looks like to me.
