Waterproof Gloves?

My so called waterproof gloves are far from it so am after some that are.

After being very impressed by the waterproof bootliner things Tatters recommended from eBay I think I'll try and find something similar for hands. It's the one thing that so far still gets wet and extremely cold on wet winter rides so get that sorted and all will be warm enough.

I saw these on the sealskinz site

and thought they might do the trick nicely. The main problem is the gloves letting through water and then getting blasted by the wind. These claim to be waterproof and windproof.

What do you use and are they any good? What do you think of the Sealskinz gloves? Think they're worth a shot?

They look like a desent pair of gloves, the problem is l find most waterproof winter gloves are too thick for offroading l,ve just brought a set of theses.

waterproof and some thermal lining, should be better than my cheap summer enduro gloves.

Well the blurb says all the right things ... ie: water and wind proof.
Give it a shot ... I will order some and see what happens too.
Certainly sounds better than the Alpinestar Chill gloves.

I am willing to try anything this winter .. so long as it keeps me riding.
Last years experience in the snow was not pleasant at all.

Well I emailed Sealskinz asking how waterproof the gloves actually are detailing what I'd be using them for and explaining my disappointment with motorcycle specific 'waterproof' gloves.

The reply said you could submerge your hand in a bucket of water and your hand would remain dry up to the cuff. That seemed good enough for me - I think as long as your hand is dry it will be warm enough.

Ordered a pair from eBay for £27.63 - cheaper than my poxy non waterproof Thor gloves I think.

The gloves are the last piece of the winter riding puzzle for me. If these manage to keep my hands dry and reasonably warm then I'm laughing. Those boot liners are the shizzle and I'm hoping these gloves match them.

Well my gloves arrived today - bloody quick, only ordered them yesterday.

I put one one and held it under water for about a minute and my hand was still dry. A little bit of water soaked into the material by the thumb but did not go through to my hand. So far, they seem waterproof but really need a proper real life test on the bike.

They seem like they might be fairly warm but not warm enough for extreme cold but then again they're fairly thin so it will be easy to ride the bike with them on. I might get a liner glove to go underneath.

So far I'm impressed but, like I say, they need a real world test.

I've found over the years that no matter how 'waterproof' gloves may be that the rain trickles down the back of the sleeve and then runs into the back of the gloove. doh.

My A* chills turned up today, I have tested them in the sink. i.e. fully submerged to just below the cuff and then wait .... At first I thought they were 100% were not going to let any water through, but after ~70s off full submersion, they started to get damp inside, you could feel the water capillarity up from the bottom of the fingers.

So 100% waterproof - no ... highly water resistant - yes ... full submersion is a pretty hard-core test, I am hoping with just 'exposure' to water/rain, they will remain 100% water tight - water will obviously eventually seep in via cuff - but all gloves will do that ...

Oh and as for 'sizing' they come up VERY small, so order on the 'big' size for you!! Thumbs Up

A lot of the thing with keeping your hands warm, is keeping your core body temperature up. If your body is a bit cold, your blood flow is kept way from extremities to kee you warm, thats why your hands are the first things to feel cold, even if our body doesnt feel cold.

If your hands are cold, putting on more layers of clothing another time, is more likely to be effective, than finding the warmest gloves in the world.

Sounds good that you have found something 100% waterproof though.

I did alot of shopping around for waterproof enduro/motocross gloves without bulkyness.

Best I found was actually KTM power wear gloves. I got some at the dirtbikeshow and haggled them down to about £26.

They have quite a good cuff that pulls tight to try and seal. Even if you get soaked they still keep your hands warm enough.

My hands didn't get wet or cold last time I went laning with Craig(sparks) and Blue. But the time before they were pretty soaked but I was waist deep in water pulling my bike out (hands surbmerged without the cuff done up).
