New to forum and just passed my A2 test

Hi,

New to this forum so guess i should first say hello to everyone.

Passed my A2 license 2 days ago and very very happy about it. Have been riding a Yam XT125x for the past 14 months. Keen to chop it in for a new ride now that i have passed.

Guess i am now going to ask the same question that lots of people have asked before me.

Should i look at a bike that comes in under the 33BHP limit, or go for a bigger bike and restrict it. If the answer is restrict, what bikes take the restriction best?

I would go for a bigger bike and restrict it- typically people recommend 600cc bandits, hornets etc That way when your restriction ends, it will be like having a new bike!

Is there anyone out there who is currently riding a restricted bike, it would be helpful to hear your views.

Im riding my other half's bandit which is restricted for me- the major difference is the lack of throttle you need, just let the clutch out and your away sort of thing. The biggest thing for me though is getting used to the weight of the bike!!

We were originally looking around for 600's but he was offered a good deal on the one hes got now. the bandit 650 and kawasaki er6f were the ones we originally tried and both seemed great all-rounder type bikes which is great to gain experience on.

Guess i have a tricky decision ahead of me, i am trying hard not to go out and buy the first thing i see. Desperate to get on a bigger bike, even if it is restricted.

It is hard to get good advice, i have a few biker mates but they are all old time bikers who didnt have to go through this restriction lark.

Well done on passing. I did mine just coming up to 2 years ago now...which means not long till I can ride derestriced and getting very excited

I had a yam xt125 r and I then got a kawasaki ER-6f which has been fun and being a girlie its not to high either which is nice as the weight difference is quite a bit.

I would defiantly get a 600 and restrict it as by the time your restriction runs out (if you wait that long) you will be dying to get on a faster bike so rather than buying 2 bikes I thought just get the 1 and get it restricted. But depends on what you want really.

Hello, from reading similar posts it seems that bikes that are 4 strokes are better suited to restriction. And the nearer the 33bhp limit the better i.e don't strangle a litre bike..well unless you really want to. Which leads me to choices. What type of riding will you be doing...distances that kind of thing. That might whittle down your options.

I currently commute around 30 miles a day, i do however ride just for fun so am also looking for something that will put a smile on my face.

Will look to take longer rides especially Donnington next year.

I've got a restricted CBR600F and it goes like stink - or at I think it does.

108bhp down to 33bhp and it doesn't seem to mind too much. As I've never ridden it (or anything else) derestricted, I have nothing to compare the power to but I've topped 113mph on it which is more than enough to put a smile on my face.

I have to change up the gears quicker and she starts to run out of puff at around 90/95mph, anything over that is a slow wind up.

I have a Hornet 600s at 33bhp - lovely bike, plenty of oomph for me - great practice to learn the bigger bike handling at slower speeds.

Welcome Steve, I've been running a restricted bandit for about 8 months now. Love it to pieces. Seen 115 up a nice big hill and its got more than enough poke for overtakes/general hooliganism

I've got a Ducati Monster 620 restricted and it feels fast enough In full power form it makes about 70ish HP so it should 'ease' me into some more power pretty well
