Interesting. Might do this if I find the time.

I've just booked mine. Might as well as the only other time I've driven a car was an automatic Ford Falcon across a car park.

I'm probably not going to book my lessons with them though as I already have someone recommended to me.

Excludes NI Crying or Very sad I am suppose to be insured on my brothers car but he never takes me out. Think I am going to end up on a bike forever.

I've just had a phone call. I now have a free driving lesson next Wednesday at 6pm with Colin Clark Very Happy

The guy on the phone was from the AA. He was trying really hard to sell me another hour on top of that for £23 (sounds a lot to me for an hour), but I wasn't budging, I just like free stuff Laughing

I don't think I'll be booking with them as I have a recommendation off a friend, but if I like the guy, I may negotiate a price.

Had a phone call yesterday and booked it for next Thursday as it is the only time I am free.

Seems ok so far but he did spend about 10 minutes trying to sell me lessons and dvd's and stuff.

I just kept saying lets have this lesson first and see what it is like first Laughing

My instructor doesn't want to do it unless I book more lessons cus apparently, he has to pay the AA driving school £30 to get my details etc.

So I said, don't bother then.

A lot of instructors work on a franchise where they pay for pupils, I do too. The first lesson is always worked as a loss, but is upto the instructor to sell himself and make you want to book another lesson, that goes for each lesson after that too. But for the instructor not to take you on is very poor, Out of every 10 pupils I take on, 1 wont book again, 2-3 will last a few lessons then drift off, but the 6-7 left will go the course to test. That's the fact of life, you have to work for your money, some instructors don't , they like the quick easy money, if they find a pupil who is struggling to learn they will dump them with some crap excuse.
You have been lucky that you haven't been saddled with this poor excuse for an ADI.

I've had a licence for over 20 years, but the last time I drove a car was about 15 years ago, so I thought I'd give it a go again.

I've just come back from my lesson. The instructor didn't even know that it was free.

He said that the maximum I'll need is 20 hours, but I'll probably be at test standard after 10-15.

I've got another lesson Sunday at 11.

Wondering whether I'm too British and polite to turn up for my free hour, then fuck off and get 50% discount with my mate's mum.

You could do, but the thing is, it's more to see how you drive, so if you do the free lesson, you're going to have to do a very similar lesson with your mate's mum.

I'm going to block book 12 hours so I can get the whole £2 discount per hour. If I don't use them all (which I expect I will anyway) you get them refunded so there's nothing to lose.
