Lmfao, Its more of a tricep and bicep movement unless your doing it wrong Numptie, which knowing you always getting the wrong end of the stick... so to speak lol would. |
I'll take your word for it - you seem to be the expert in this department. As far as I know, I use my deltoids with my girlfriend. I can't say I've taken a survey on what other guys do.
Seriously though, if you have a deltoid sprain, it's going to be a little tricky to isolate. On your shoulder joint where the scapula+humerus meet at the socket, there is a set of muscles called the 'rotator cuff' muscles. If you haven't had physiotherapy to localise the sprain, then you could end up doing far more damage to yourself.
Generally, you would be better off starting a gradual mobility program (i.e. if you ride a sportsbike with your ass up above your head and weight on your wrists, you might have to actually swap for an upright gay Harley bike ).
Well, gradual mobility increasing exercise regime for 5 minutes twice a day initially:
1. Stand straight, arms by your side. Slowly raise your arms sideways until 90 degrees and hold. Repeat 10 times
2. Same again, but this time move arms forwards
3. Same again, but this time, cross arm (no elbow bending) across your chest
4). Same again, but rotate arm backwards without forcing
5). From standing still position, rotate arm 90 degrees sideways, then slowly start to raise it above your head in an arc, keeping elbow straight
6). Repeat slowly and gently
You might consider seeing your GP and asking if he thinks its worthwhile prescribing you a short course of NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen) which you can then go and buy over the counter for a cheaper price than the prescription). It will reduce any swelling. More importantly, your GP will check to make sure you don't have a rotator cuff tear or anything else that might be sinister. Equally, you can ask him to refer you to the sports injury clinic. Physiotherapy is a great idea and although expensive at arouund £40/40minutes, you won't need many sessions. Some stimulation massage for the affected joint will help, and then you'll be taught the exercises you need properly, rather than listening to forum biker members telling you that wanking is the solution for every man's ill |

While useful to others with a sprained deltoid, like stated earlier, you've got the wrong end of the stick.
My deltoid is suffering from lack of signals from damaged nerves, and the muscles have wasted. i have range of movement and dont need pain relief, as stated before should you care to read my OP im back on weights, the problem i need to correct is muscle building and strength.
I normally move my arm around in the ways you've suggested at work and in my spare time, they worked, but now i need a bit more.
i'm currently using my supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis to move the arm, and they are quite strong now. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Lol. No one is ever going to get the right end of the stick, except you, Lord of the wank lol. Maybe getting a girlfriend to do a few press ups would actual be a major deltoid achievement, rather than relying on your biceps/triceps push/pull action.
Okay...let's try and think this through.....
If you're saying that deltoid muscle innervation has been damaged from the accident, then you're effectively saying that you've got an impaired axillary nerve which I presume, you've had confirmed through nerve conduction studies. Your deltoid muscle is used foremost after action no.1 i.e. at 90 degrees, then you start arcing your arm over your head (no.5). This is the action which relies on your deltoid muscle most, so you will need to concentrate on building up a repertoire of exercises, raising your arm above your head from 90 degrees. This may involve doing a hip to head movement with your hand, and then progressively adding a 500gm weight and then a 1kg weight, progressively etc for 5 minutes and then building up from that.
The other action involving your deltoid muscle involves the drawing action of the back hand, usually found in table tennis players when you use the back hand from your left hip to draw the blade up to the right shoulder. You get the general idea.
If your rotator cuff muscles are strong, you shouldn't find too much of a limitation of the weaker deltoid muscle. It's probably just a narcissistic thing that is bothering you about its appearance in the mirror, but don't worry about it - once you start building up the range of movements it'll come back, unless your axillary nerve damage is really serious. If you're repeatedly dislocating your shoulder joint, then it is seriously weak and you really need more than the forum can provide... |

Okay, now that you're finished with that, we'll call a truce, eh?!
I'm quite hazy about the specific exercises. The ones I do remember -
Do you know how to do the military press? You can do it from the seated or standing straight (levered position) I described earlier, and raise a bar weight from your throat up straight up above your head, and down again. Keep your body like a series of levers; everything has to be straight, no bending except your elbows to raise the weight.
From Position no.1, you can do the side-exercises using dumb bells. You're used to playing with your bell end, so this one will be second nature to you. Best to do it with both right and left with dumbells in each hand and lift your arms in front of your eyes with the dumbells in your palms facing down until your arms form a straight 90 degree angle with your body, in line with the floor. Then lower from this position until your palms face the floor.
If you have membership of a gym, you can get an induction and get them to teach you to do a shoulder press to train your deltoid muscles. I think that should be enough to develop the front and back fibres of the deltoid muscle.
Why don't you just get professional advice from a physiotherapist though...it's honestly the best £40x5 sessions you could spend, if you have an injury like this. Just my £0.01.
Best of luck... |

Awesome! Apart from the fact that if you use it too much you can get wrist strain. |

Yes....Lonewolf might be very susceptible to that, due to his other wrist activities
How you doing Lonewolf?! Did the military press exercises help? |
