I too hope that it is something cool... If it's those pesky Russians I'll be dissapointed.

It does look likely to be a rocket, especially from one of the pictures where you can see the trail in the sunlight in the background.... But the blueness is odd... As is the spiral...as surely if a rocket exploded, the spiral wouldn't be facing down/directly at the town...it would be facing in the direction of the rockets travel. Also... Russia is huuuuuge, why would it be in Norway?

After reading the thread on Something awful I feel a lot more nerdy.

What they say makes kind of sense that it is a rocket launch over the visible horizon and what you are seeing is the vapour trails and various other things at such an angle it looks like a spiral with glowing moon thing in the middle.
