... would you have the 'stones' to gamble it on a coin toss (50:50) to win £250,000 instead??

i.e. there are 3 outcomes, you walk away with £250k, £88k or nothing.

*and no, NO I am not going tooooo, this is hypothetical only!!! Razz

I used to play at casinos so know exactly what it's like to have money & then lose it a few seconds later by gambling. But then again, that's what gives people the thrill, knowing they could get more...

So i'll stick with the £88k, thanks. Very Happy

How have you got £250,000 from £88,000?

It's irrelevant anyway, because I'd do the sensible thing and take the £88,000.

Yep, on Tuesday, some old bint had the stones to gamble with 1p and £250k on the board ... (with an £88k 'offer' to buy her out). Cool

statistically, betting £88k on a 50:50 for £250K is a very good bet, you wouldn't find many bookies taking the bet i.e you give them £88 and either walk away with nothing or they pay you £250.

But, in my current financial/life situation I couldn't risk it, £88 would do allot of good now

Whether it requires "stones" or not is dependant on how much you actually need the money, and what you had to do to obtain the £88k in the first place.

I'd want better than a 50:50 chance to give away a guaranteed £88k.

Yep, you would need to put £125k down on 'black or red' to get that sort of return ... so £88k would be a bargain!! Shocked

I'd take the money and run. £88k would clear my debts, get me a bike and allow me to have a proper holiday for the first time in aaaaaaaages. Then I'd spend a load on hookers and booze.

I'd probably waste the rest.

I'd take the 88k, bolt, buy a house outright (houses are fairly cheap up here). I could have a sizable pension / money put away from working without having to pay a mortgage. Thumbs Up

Having the 250k would make things easier but if an opportunity like that (88k) came up I'd be a fool not to take it.

Always swap the boxes!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem

I'd take the 88k it's too much to risk. My cut off (for the same prize ratio) would be a bout a grand, anything over that and I'd keep it!

Quite, as the host doesn't know the location. It's the player picking the boxes to remvoe as oppose to the host in the above example. Thumbs Up

If you it like this, if you had worked really hard and save up all your cash and you had 88k in your account would you bet it on a 50/50 to win £250k? I wouldn't. But it was £88 for £250 I probably would. 88k is a life changing amount of money.

I would take the money and run far away Very Happy
Even if the offer was 50:50 for 400k.
The truth is you are getting amazing odds, but those odds are only applicable if you get the opportunity more than once.
If I got the opportunity 10 times, I'd gamble every time and be sure to make a profit, but when it's only once and it's 50:50... No way
