My dads bike has been sat in my garage now for some months in bits, As it wouldnt run its had new rings, new plugs, plug caps, coils, carbs cleaned, its getting air and breather have been done also. It wants to turn over but just wont fire up.

Its got a very good spark the fuel is getting there, its got good compression.

but still wont start.

My dad has told me that he rode it to work done his shift (about 9 hours) went to start it and it wouldnt. Ive tried bumping it still no go.

Any ideas ?

Also heres a picture of his bike, So you know what it is just incase.

The points on these bikes breakdown causing problems it is an engine out job to fix which is why my dads hasn't moved in about 6 years.

I thought they had a TDI unit, not points?

Silly question. Are the coilswired up the right way round (as in left hand coil attached to the feed right hand coil)? The wiring for the two sides could have got mixed up in the wolesale replacement of ignition parts?

I've made this mistake myself a couple of times. Engines are amazingly reluctant to run if they're getting the spark at BDC. You get the odd pop and backfire but not much else.

I had one of these years ago which was always a pain to start. Nothing was good on it, but what killed it in the end was that the rocker gear was worn to hell so the valve timing was never right. I could maybe have fixed it but it was a hideous, ugly, overweight money-sucking old bike of limited utility which I was embarrased to be seen riding and I hated it. Bit like my ex wife, come to think of it.
