If it is for a 6yr old then a battery powered one is probably the best idea. You can get a cheap (<=£20 inc rechargeable batteries) one off the market that will keep him more than happy .....

An adult however will find it lame within ~30s .... Wink

So, for the big kid .... NITRO is the only way forward!!! Cool

In all seriousness, where are they going to play with it???

To go nitro, you need a fairly large pond/lake and be a bit away from houses.

Have a meander round youtube ... try 'nitro boat' as a search string.

Nitro is more hassle, but by feck do they go ... and you can stay out for as long as you have fuel ... a battery boat is really restrictive on runtime (even with a car charger)!! Wink

What you have to remember with a nitro boat is that if the motor cuts, you have to wait for it to blow to the side therfore you need a large enough expanse of water to make it boat-able, but also you want it so that it has access to the down-wind area where the boat will end up in a 'dead-stick'!! Wink

Could you not make some sort of backup battery system Blue that would cut in if the battery died? I guess the boat wont be as light light weight having an extra propeller, motor and battery, but could still be useful.

I think Traxxas have this ... but yes, it just means more weight ... it is not worth that penalty!! Wink

Also if you flip it, you still have the same problem ... just more in there to make it sink!! Wink

edit: here you go, search for "traxxas nitro vee" Thumbs Up
