Hi all, I'm not sure what to do about a problem thats occured with my bike test. First a little bit of info to make the situation clearer.

I work 3 days a week (tuesday, friday and saturday) with this in mind when I rang and booked my test on the 23rd of november, I specifically made a request that no part of my test be booked on a tuesday, friday or saturday as I would not be able to get time off with christmas being so close. The lady on the other end of the line said that paying by cash was fine and I was booked in for wednesday the 9th of december, PROVIDING I paid the fee by monday 30th of november, which I did and received a receipt for. I have not, however, received written confirmation in the post about the test or any of the dates, so could not ring ahead to correct the following.

Now here's the problem,

this afternoon about 2pm I got a phonecall from the place I'm taking my bike test with, asking me where i was and that i should have been at the test centre at 1pm for training. I rang up a little confused, asking what was going on, and that i was told my module 1 was booked for wednesday 9th of december. the answer was that i had an extra days training for having a cbt already, but because i hadn't turned up, i had lost my fee for that day. I was then told that my mod 1 is monday the 14th of december.

I'm going to the session tomorrow, but will ask whats going on and explain my situation. If I'm told there's nothing they can do, and its my fault, what can i do from a legal stand point, because its nearly £40 lost because of their mistake. I made sure to state on the phone several times that i would be unable to attend sessions that conflicted with work, and was told that it would be ok.

sorry for the long-ass post and if its a little unclear, im a bit pissed off with it all tbh =/

Who did you book the test with ?

Company providing the training or the DVLA or who ever runs it.

Did they not give you a date over the phone for the test....

Why could you not just attend for MOD 1 today and take it from there.
Can't see why they should need to move the test date.

I booked it with the company running the test, the woman on the phone told me that module 1 would be on the 9th of december.

I'll see what they say I'm doing today, but I'll tell the instructor I was told on the phone on the 23rd I would be doing Mod 1 and go from there

You might get lucky if they recorded the call, helpful if you know the date and time of it (or who called you). Otherwise legally I don't know what you could prove.

i know i called about 2pm on the 23rd of november, i specifically said several times tuesdays were a no go. so might ring them up to check my dates.

yesterday was a training session, i think it went ok, the cones were all set up a bit closer than they will be in the real test, which i see as a good thing. I was told by the instructor that if i was very skilled and should pass mod 1 without issue Smile even the swerve wasnt so bad, I managed to hit it at about 40mph, a full 8 higher than required. he also complemented me on my emergency stop, it was wet but I still managed to bottom the front suspension out without locking either wheel up Very Happy

i might have misunderstood so let me get this straight..

you booked your mod 1 for wednesday but werent given the time of your test at the time or a confirmation letter so you decided to do nothing and then are surprised when they call you the day after your test day asking you where you were?

did it not occur to you to give them a call BEFORE your test day to confirm the time?

i might have totally misunderstood here but it sounds pretty silly from reading your post

nope, part right part wrong.

i phoned them on november 23rd to book my test. they told me turn up on wednesday the 9th for the test, i asked what time what i need to be there and was told 8.30am.

they rang me the day BEFORE i was supposed to be there taking my mod 1, which, being a tuesday, i couldnt do as i work tuesdays and fridays. When I rang them back they said i was due at the centre the next day at 1pm for training and mod 1 on the 14th of december,

I know what i was told as i wrote it down and asked that what i had written was correct. So I'm considering ringing up and asking why I was booked in for a tuesday, when I asked not to be. As it stands they're making out i missed a session (that i wasn't told about) and its my fault, which if it were true I'd have no problem admitting to.

When ever I get a new pupil for any intensive courses with a test at the end I always phone the customer ( as that is what you are) to make sure all the details are correct, the time of the test is correct, the times of the training fit in with what the customer needs, as well as my own Laughing , But there should never be an instance where they have booked you in for the times you stated that you couldn't do the test. There can be misunderstandings, but these should be picked up when the person who is actually doing your training contacts you to confirm all details are correct. If they have got it wrong then they need to absorb the costs and put things right to your needs. If you have fucked up, then tuff. But in saying that if it was one of my pupils that have cocked up, I would still try to help the pupil to sort things out.

Fair enough, but they've said that the fee has been lost because i didn't turn up. my a is they should realise they've cocked up and at least give me a 'free' day as it were, to replace the one THEY lost for me.

I'll speak to the instructor on monday when i go for mod 1, see what his opinion is, if i get nowhere I'll ring the office and try and sort it, if that fails, what can i do? I've received no written confirmation, no letters in the post or emails, no phone calls to confirm that i can go in or when y next lesson is =\

As it is THEIR fee that has been lost, then there is no reason that they could not have let you simply take the test. Then if you fail offer to pay for the retest. If it is their fault.

I know it all adds to the cost, but why the hell don't companies put it in writing and comfirm via mail.

I haven't missed a test, just a training session, which was arranged for the day before they told me I would be starting. If I haven't had any written confirmation by Tuesday after the postman has been I'll ring up and tell them that I have already raised this issue and would like the remainder of my fee (at least 2 lessons and the fee for mod 2) returned and that I'll be going elswhere for the rest of my test, seeing as they can't arrange some simple paperwork.

from the content of this post and your work related one, I get the impression that you have some sort of problem with dates and times, do you own a watch or a calender at all? Rolling Eyes

I have both a watch and calendar, and my problem is that if I'm told I start my course on a wednesday because I can't do tuesdays, I EXPECT to start on wednesday, not the tuesday. I also EXPECT people to ask me to work before putting my name down for overtime and then moaning because I haven't turned up. Thats whats pissing me off, if I'd been told or put my name down myself I would only have myself to blame.

if you look at the time it was posted, it says 01.52, which would have been either late tuesday night, or early wednesday morning. either way how could they have rung me at 2pm if it was barely even wednesday at all?

the point stands that they rang me on tuesday, a day i said i would be unavailable, saying i had been booked in to ride that day (tuesday) when i had been told on the 23rd november that my course would begin on wednesday 9th, because it fit in with my work arrangement.
