CG125 moth-balled

Hi

I have a really good CG125 o a 2002 plate and used to ride it to work everyday for about 2 years, then my newborn son came, the CG'er had to be moth-balled into the back of the garage.

It's been nearly 2 years since she was put into the garage and I had a clear out and got her out. The battery still had charge and a quick change of petrol (I know... I left some in, ooppss) a quick kick start was amazing.. Started first time.

I'm going to give it a full service and get it ready for an MOT again.... then it's back on the road.

I know some people will not be interested.. but I was so impressed in the old girl that I had to just shout about it.

Yup, the CG truly is amazing

Would be interesting to see some pics, I hope it hasn't rusted! Might be worth an oil change at some point seeming as you might not remember how many miles it's done with that old oil in there. Obviously check the chain. If it was on it's centre stand then there won't have been much weight on the tires so they should be ok but check the air pressure.

If you're really feeling paranoid, check all bolts are tight, that the brakes have meat on them, that the lights are all functioning (rear and front) and pointed in the right directions (would hate to be caught out with no fog light), that the horn works, that the exhaust isn't blowing, that your valve clearances are perfect, oil seals not leaking, compression is good, wheel axles are greased up properly and finally that your red powerband is functioning at peak performance

Yep, the tires were flat(ish), the ar filter, oil filter, oil, plugs... all going to be changed.

All the lights and horn worked no problem. The wheels were caked in vasaline (oh er missus) to protect them, so just a wipe down and the exhast is absolutley fine. The exhast is no longer chrome, I painted it with black heat resisdent paint.... as the bike is black, this looked fine.

I am justover the moon with it all and look forward to getting to work on it and I'll have to get some piccy's done.

A lad i knew of had a grandfather die who bought a CG just 5 months before his death in 1986 or something. Brand new bike at the time. Full tank of fuel as well.

The lad inherited the bike and left it until last year untouched bar having it trasnported in a trailer. kicked it over and it started 1st time on stale fuel.

They will run on anything and run forever, you just watch

Sent the CG off for an MOT today... passed with flying colours. Even put an advisory that the brakes were over efficient. I did stripe them and rough them up last night.

Time to pop some tax on the bike and get to work.

Looks good. I'm in exactly the situation, just starting to get my cg125 on the road after it has been stuck in the garden for the past 18 months! Unfortunately I didn't take the same Vaseline precautions, so I have a load of scrubbing to get it shining again.

What paint did you use for the exhaust? I'm considering doing that as the rust is pretty bad on it. Any chance of a photo from the other side?

Halfords do some VHT (Very High Temperature) paint for exhausts in a range of colours, including black I would get the rust off first though if you want it to last.

That's a nice looking CG, kick start and electric too for when your feeling lazy,
