Okay, so I will be getting a 50cc supermoto soon. Either the gilera smt or the derbi senda sm. My question is simple.
I really want to buy a sports exhaust as it will make it quicker, looks better and doesn't require much else to make it work. But, if I fit one, will I have to upjet my carb?
If i do, I have no clue how, so has anyone got a rough idea of a price to get it done properly?
Ps. How much would it be to get it done on the dyno as I want to be able to rev to the perfect amount to go as fast as quickly as possible without wasting revs if you see what I mean?
Thanks |

Dont take this the wrong way. But I was parked in a petrol garage the other day.
I came out of the shop, and walked back to my car. In front of me were a couple of 16 year olds, With their 50cc "Motard" bikes.
They were yacking on about how fast their bikes are, And what difference their performance mods made.
By the time I'd put my bit of shopping in the boot of my Golf, Got in, Phone on the hands free holder etc. The ped boy's were starting up and getting ready to leave.
I pulled out behind them, And both bikes were struggeling to pass 40mph.
So regardless of mods, The money really out-weighs the improvement.
That minuscule bit of extra speed really is not going to make that much difference. At all!
Go for a bike which shares the same frame/chassis throughout the engine range.
You are breaking the law just as much, owning a 50cc motorbike with a race exhaust. As you are owning a 50cc motorbike, fitted with a 125cc engine.
If you're going to break the law, you may as well just do it properly.

Cheers for the advice. I know exactly what you mean about people boasting. I have loads of friends who do it.
I just feel that a sports exhaust is just simply a great accesory. I dont have the knowledge to fit an engine
The exhaust on the smt is butt ugly anyway
I dont mean to sound really stupid but is the choke where it normally is on motocross bikes or is it somewhere else and is there (even a little like enough for a disclock) underseat storage?
D you know the answer to my original question and these new ones?
Thanks |
