I personally hate them, only written a handful in over a decade; managed to bounce one Embarassed

Claims of hurting small business are baws, it would hopefully end the mantra of "the cheque is in the post" which really annoys me. My grandpaw (85 yesterday) can use online banking too, so......anyone going to miss them?

It's my understanding that a cheque is quite simply a payment agreement. A cheque can be written on anything and must be accepted as tender in many circumstances. Then banks communicate etc and money is transferred.

The Guinness Book of Records claims that the strangest cheque was one written on a live cow, but as long as you have the bank details, account details, your signature, and the amount to be transferred, you can legally use anything as a cheque, providing that object is in itself legal. Cheque books are a service provided by the bank to save you the bother of writing out everything.

I will miss them, I deal in cheques or cash, sometimes I could have over £3k with me if I get pre-payments for lessons, having it in cash is a risk, cheques are better and easier to carry.
having a card scanner costs money whether you use it or not, just another cost on top of my already high out goings.
Many people don't want to carry a lot of cash with them either. Cheques are an easy way to transfere money for small business and should be an option open to all.

I've been using the same cheque for about 10 years. Cards are so much easier for paying with.

Except it will force you onto using other methods, in that whenever I try to sell something they say I can paypal you, which costs something in the region of 5% or something.

While cheques are generally free to cash (unless you are using a biz account).

Way back in the 1990s people would send me cheques which was great as I could run a decent margin, then cards became all the rage, which meant a credit card company was raping me to the tune of 8% of all my margins.

Which made the biz untenable, this just seems to be a method to muscle out the small companies tbh.
