Hi chaps(esses).

I had a spill this morning (Snow, round a corner, on my side before I know it) right outside my work. As it was outside of work, I am being picked up by the RAC and taken home tonight (Hopefully)

All that broke was my brake lever, which I find strange as I fell on the clutch lever side Confused

The wife has already been out to pick one up, and I hope it will be an easy replacement.

This is where you guys come in, how difficult is it? The brake lever has come away from what I would call the pinion at the top part of the lever. There is a big flat headed screw beyond that.

Do I take this screw out and put in the new lever, attaching the brake cable to the adjuster, or will I need a new pinion?

Your help would be appreciated

Cheers

Brake cable? even lowly bikes like CGs have hydraulic brakes these days, how old is your bike? , does it have a hydralic cylinder on the bars?.

If it does, it is a simple case of undoing the nut at the bottom and unscrewing the bolt with it pivots off, pulling out the bolt the lever should fall out you replace the lever and bolt and tighten it up..

The only problem you may have with some pattern ones is the brake switch may not work right, my NTV wore a CBR600 lever, I smashed a washer inhalf and glued it to the bit that unpressed the brake light button.

The things to check for are that the bolt which it pivots off is not warped, my NTV one was 0 shaped not O shaped and it was a right burger to fix. Also check the brake light works as well.

Thanks for the advice, sorry if I was not too clear.

It is a 96 bandit, and it has the brake cylinder on the bars, it is just the bit that is left looks like the end of a cable (A triangle shape) is left at the bottom. I have in my hand the snapped lever, and there is the adjuster, with the 1-4 markings on and the fork that clips to this triangle bit (I think) is what has snapped off.

As I have not seen the new part yet, I am a bit concerned that it wont come with the pivot part, so I may need to get this replaced as well, unless of course this comes on the new handle.

Thanks again

Doubt it will come with the main bit that straps to the bars.

If it just the lever, on hydraulic brakes it is really easy to do though Thumbs Up

The bit at the bottom may well be the brake light switch.
