Just a query about the speedo on my 2003 GSF600N...
In the absence of a Haynes manual, I'm having some intermittant fault with the speedo. Sometimes it doesn't work at all, then suddenly starts working part way thru a ride.

Is the speedo/trip comp an electrical connection on the Bandit, or an actual rotating inner cable (as on my previous bike, a GPZ500) ??

Any advice would be helpful because I'd prefer not to start investigating without the help of MrHaynes Thumbs Up

If it's the same as a '99 Bandit, it's a rotating cable. Could be just the mechanism sticking intermittently - that is what happened to mine

Will be trying to get a Haynes manual to double check the setup, but it seems like it's likely to be a problem with the cable and/or mechanism. (I'm hoping it's just a matter of a little lubrication in the right place).

Thanks for the info Vinyardo Thumbs Up

if its a cable it will be blindingly obvious-look at your front wheel and look for the cable, will take u two seconds.

It's not a cable on the Gen2 600 and 1200s they're electronic driven from a sensor/pick up on the front sprocket. That end doesn't usually cause problems but you can clean it up just to make sure it's isn't the build up of gunge you usually get in that area. Could be a loose/dirty connector at the intrument end, worth going through the connectors to check and clean them up with contact cleaner. Another common problem on Bandits are the wires that wrap round the headstock chafing/breaking that can give intermittent problems until they actually break and cause a permanent problem, check the wiring when you check/clean the connectors there as the speedo wire is one of them.
