Hi, when I picked up my TZR spares earlier today, I was chatting to the seller about how he came across the spares. Turns out he had bought about 10 bikes in bits. He then went on to say how he had been into TZR's for about 10 years.

Apparently R1 etc 5 wire EXUP servo motors will serve as YPVS servos aswell, so if in need of a new servo they can be had for about £25 Smile

Also, the thing that interests me is that with nothing more than a 6mm spacer on the right hand side you can fit the single sided swing arm from an Aprilia AF1 with no consequences in wheel base, chain/wheel alignment or ride height. Is anyone able to confirm this? If not I'll be happy to be a test mule Razz would certainly be pretty unusual!

I'm definately after a Left Hand Side chained AF! swing arm though, even if its only to mock up on the spare frame I have sat in the shed Razz will try and get a photoshop or rough drawing of what it might look like Razz

Which AF1? The 125s had the chain on the right while the TZR chain is on the left. Possibly you could use a swinging arm from an AF1 50. Possibly you could try to mount the swinging arm upside down, but good luck then connecting the shock / linkage.

All the best

I'm not sure, I've found what appears to be a left side chained swingarm, I'll ask the guy exactly what I need to do, but from what he said the TZR shock bolts straight up. I think he was referring to the 125 swing arm as I recall something about welding the shock mount on the other side.

I'll message him tomorrow about it, as I'd like to put a S/S swing arm on my TZR, if nothing for the tart factor Laughing

Hi

All the 125s with single sided swinging arms had r/h chains. Prior to the AF1 Aprilia made the AS1 that also had a r/h chain but had a normal swinging arm. Prior to that Aprilia used a different engine supplier and had a l/h chain and normal swinging arm.

While the single sided swinging arm might look OK it weighs a ton.

One other problem would be a sprocket. The AF1 used a 520 chain while the TZR used a 428 chain. But the AF1 sprocket is a bit strange (has pins on it to locate on the sprocker carrier) so probably not that cheap to get a custom rear sprocket knocked up. A 520 front sprocket would probably be easier.

You would also need to make up some way to mount a rear brake master cylinder to go with the disk rear brake.

All the best

Keith

Ok Keith, I'll most likely prove you to be 100% as you normally are. but I'll still find out what the guy did and report back with what I find.

Theres an AF1 swinger on eBay right now with the disc and everything, and unless the linkage mount is underneath (which it probably is) it's a left hand one.

I have a rear disc brake model TZR, so would it be as simple as put an AF1 brake line on and connect it (length depending) to my current master cylinder? Or would I most likely need one made up to length?

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, and please don't take this as me being a know-it-all, because I truly have no idea, I'm just going on what I've been told has apparently been done before, and think it would look good Smile

Hi

If it has a left hand chain then it is from a 50. I have a few swinging arms floating around and can measure one up for you if you want. There are minor differences between the different models of AF1 swinging arms (eg, chain guard mounts, etc) but suspect the main dimensions are the same.

That said if I do my back in lifting one up I reserve the right to moan at you Laughing .

If you already have a rear master cylinder then you can probably get away with just connecting it like that. You might want to try a different bore m/c to get the brakes to feel nice, but I suspect as standard it will be close enough to be useable.

All the best

Keith

If you wouldn't mind doing that Keith, I'd appreciate it, but if you do you back in, I reserve the right to hide behind the sofa! Laughing

Main dimension I'm after is how wode the gap of the shock linkage mount is. I'm considering bolting my TZR shock straight to the linkage mount, because I'll have to flip the swing arm so that the chain is on the correct side, which will make the linkage mount on the top.

Can you advise on where to get a 520 front sprocket from? Could I use a DT one? As the engines are similar and I know that a 520 conversion can be done to the DT

front sprocket = JTF329
iirc, the front sprocket from a honda mtx200 would fit, as well as suzuki gs500, as well as numerous others.
i use the the jt sprockets site for cross reference, very handy,

edit : i really want to see this done now, sounds interesting...
