I own one now, you can't fault the thing at all
From what my Dad has said it was supposed to be £200 but he got it for 80 in a sale, he only uses his bike in summer so he rarely needs it so he lent it to me for winter
It's got a stupid amount of zips, buttons and velcro, if you fasten it up properly your chest and arms will be sweating in freezing cold temperatures
When I'm wearing it and riding round in weather like it is now, roads iced up and such, my face is frozen beyond healthy limits but my arms and chest are above normal body temperatures
I'd recommend it to anyone, it even has a built in neck/mouth warmer and it's about as waterproof as waterproof goes
It's a heavy fucker though ____________________ Doug97 wrote: Fuck you, what they did was awesome. You just wish you had the balls to be like them, instead of being constantly afraid that there's a rule somewhere out there you might be breaking. |

Not as good as they used to be, their stuff seems to be more fashion biased.
However 4-5 years ago now I had a belstaff red jacket which held up nicely from several offs. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. They got bought out by an Italian fashion design house recently so I can't coment on the quality of the newer stuff but they were originally producers of top notch bike gear.
I've had a pair of bellstaff leather jeans for the last 15 years. Still going strong, been off in them (at speed) twice.
Their waxed cotton stuff always struck me as having the ability to both stink and to maintain your skin temperature about 2 degrees below what is strictly comfortable in all conditions. Cost many hundreds of pounds now though, the waxed cotton jackets are pretty much what the fashion house bought them for. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Very reto and very expensive ( like my Irvin flying jacket) I think you will pay far more than £200 for one new. A quick look at the website confirms two things.
1. you can spend £950 on one.
2. The website is very hard to navigate.

I'm a bit of a Belstaff tart, got lent an old Trialsmaster jacket from an ex's dad a few years back for wearing on the enfield and thought it looked great, so when he took it back I needed to get another one (I now own 5 different bellstaff jackets...)! Basically, if you buy belstaff you are paying for the design (and that can be over £500 for a simple leather jacket in some cases!)- IMO they did and do make the best looking bike gear, classic simple styles which aren't overstated (with the acception of some of the 80s stuff)
If it's the wax cotton ones you are looking at, they aren't that warm and will offer next to no protection in a crash, so it would be purely a tart/pose value purchase. Did think about buying a vintage one, but as they were similar in price (seriously) I decided to get one of the newer wax cotton ones which come with CE armor but to be honest are still going to offer FA protection in a crash. Jacket cost me just over *ahem* £300 *ahem* which is a lot to pay for what it is, but I've taken to wearing mine (minus crash protection) as a winter jacket off the bike too for which it performs well above what I need it for. Quality wise though, it's well made but I did have to send my first one back because if came with a tear in the wax cotton (not what you'd expect from a £300 jacket fresh from the factory).
Also got a sort of james dean type old wax cotton one which I picked up on ebay for £60 which is used as a sort of summer/autumn jacket for the enfield, but again offers next to no protection in an off (it's the one on the left). Got a cordura type one which looks similar to that and is used for pillions. Both of which are adequitely warm and well made.

Also got a proper cordura trialsmaster type number with matching trousers bought from ebay for about £80 (think they are one of the last ones made by the 'old' factory so quite a few years old, but in pretty good nick) and they are pretty good too - more protection and warmer than the wax cotton, but not quite as complete a jacket as something like a weise one (ie no neoprine around cuffs/neck, not as many technical aspects to the jacket).
So to sum up, the older ones a probably more consistant in their quality but any of the wax cotton ones hold their value (and even more so because as mentioned before they seem to be in vogue right now - the Hammond and May are pretty much always in bellstaff gear), the newer ones are pretty expensive for what you are getting, but you pay for the style.
Cheers,
Stu (the Belstaff Tart)

I bought a jacket in 2005 for 110 quid. Very comofrtable and warm. Good quality aswell. Pretty much a cheaper version of Hein Gericke but still good quality. Maybe it doesn't have quite the same finsish but then jackets only last 4 - 5 years IMO which this has.
I don't know of it now, but someone just posted that it got bought out. The new stuff does seem very trendy while the old stuff was good quality. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

Ah Belstaff......
Had one back in the 70's. Great jacket. Just one major flaw, as it was waxed.
Should you forget that you were not going out on the bike and sit in a car..... You tended to be not very popular with the owner afterwards ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
