lady near me was killed while walking her dog on Thursday by an ambulance on a shout.
skidded on ice hit her and she died later the ambulance driver and passenger were injured as it ended upside down in a ditch Thumbs Down

I wonder what it's like in countries where it snows more than half the year.

I reckon the drivers must be used to it and be able to control skids etc.

Was it Norway where you have to do skid pan work to pass your test?

I know the place well, there is a narrow bridge on a bend after a nice straight bit. It catches alot of people out as going in 1 direction you have to break going round a corner if theres something coming. Going the other way you often get nearly hit head on by a car cutting the corner assuming theres nothing coming the other way. My mate once did neither of these things, deciding instead to drive into the bridge Laughing

Excellent bit of road otherwise.

What about if the crash involves a speeding sports bike and a car, who are you going to automatically blame?

People on BCF are very good at crashing into cars, it's the start of winter so you'll get to see how many "omg its icy, I crashed!!" threads there are. Very Happy

But all the stories are roughly the same... a BCF n00b crashes their bike, either into a car or they've managed to fall off all on their own. Before the rider picked themselves up off the ground, they're already working out how to tell the story on BCF as they can't admit that they made a mistake.

If they're unable to come up with a story that makes them appear blameless then they can always blame it on a diesel spill. Thumbs Up

Hi

It is about 2/3 of car bike accidents that are the car drivers fault.

Trouble with snow now is that people have just forgotten how to drive in it, not helped by the paranoia inducing announcements of not to travel unless necessary when there is only the odd flake of snow.

Chatting to someone yesterday saying that there BMW 5 series was lousy in the snow (decent enough driver and a skilled automotive engineer). The traction control was useless and just left it sitting not moving. Only way to get it to move was to turn the traction control off.

I some respects looking at some of the cretins here I think it's a good thing some roads don't get done, Darwin will take care of those not skilled enough to use the road in normal conditions and were simply lucky getting a license.

Now before I get flamed (well, I don't actually care if I do) for that comment, think about it.

How many retards think it'd be fun to try out driving/riding in this weather for bragging points to their mates who are able to admit they aren't ab;e to try it themselves? Then these retards get cocky and fuck it up, leaving someone or something seriously hurt or broken. Could be a dog dead, bike written off or a kid dead.

Well I try to ride the bike every day of the year because I love riding
and, improving my skills in adverse conditions.

It's the fairweather bikers that take their bikes out of storage in
the Spring and put them away in the Autumn that end up in our
local mortuaries. The riders who dump their bikes in the ice and
snow usually just have slow low-sides. Nothing terminal.

This afternoon I encountered two learners on 125s, with their
instructor, pottering along learning how to ride safely in poor
conditions. Mad fuckers, eh? There's snow and ice all over the
place, they're just asking to die.

Sorry you don't feel able to try it for yourself. If you did, you might
know what you're talking about.

Nice to know what your opinions are of fellow bikers are, though. It is an open forum, after all.Thumbs Up

I've ridden through this crap since I was 16 on a moped, I'm 21 now.

I'm perfectly happy with my riding abilities (which I'd predict would be quite better than a lot of the willy wavers here - maybe inc yourself), at no point above did I say I didn't ride in this, but the not so good riders or those without experience shouldn't push beyond their limits for a 2mm cock extension. Wink

I'm pretty sure that's Finland, but it might well be the case on other Scandinavian countries too. Not Norway though, of the time I've spent in that county I don't remember people telling me that part of the driving / riding test as well.

I'm going out shortly on my bike to practice riding in the snow, just keeping to quiet side roads while I induce slides. wheel spins, starts/ stops. changing directions, etc. I'm using Conti Trail Attacks for the first time in snow, so I just want to know how they feel. Also want to see how my ABS works in the snow too.

Well a reduction in speed is always good as well as turning the steering wheel slowly so avoiding a skid but most important is a change of tyres to "winter tyres" my dad in germany has 2 sets of tyres one for winter the other for summer I was told if you have an accident with the wrong tyre on then you will not be covered by the insurance company,regardless who is at fault. True or not I dunno but wise all the same.
