hi there folks,
i recently bought a drz 400sm from a dealer. i noticed that the bike has an addittional button fitted to the right hand handlebar. this button is connected to the carb via a piece of clear tubing. when pressed there is a very quiet hiss of air, but it doesnt seem to do anything to engine revs etc when the bike is running. i have included pics...
Has anyone seen such a button b4 and what is its purpose.. i think it may be somw sort of hot start button but not sure.. the bike is completely standard other than this i think and has only covered 1,800 miles. its an 06 bike.
answers on a postcard please.....

I can't imagine it is, the DRZ has an auto de-comp. Thus rendering a seperate hot start useless.

Never a button operated hot start either, generally they are just like a mini clutch lever adjacent to the clutch lever.

I have the mini clutch lever type, but the button type can be bought. Here's one off racespec.com for a Yamaha YZ :

A 'button' that usually resembles the old fashioned choke pulls.
Found on big 4 strokes ... usually off road.

Pulling the hot start sends a leaner fuel/air mix .... as it can be a bit of a bit*h to start a big single when hot. (ie: when you have just come off, half way up a hill, and just want to get going again Smile )

note: choke (which you use when the bike is cold) gives the opposite .. a rich mixture.
