https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/8418921.stm

Well, a police van doing 77mph in a 40... loses control and causes an accident which later becomes fatal. He blames a tyre with low pressure, not excessive speed and this gets him off. How?

If he knew about the tyre, why was he going so fast in a VAN?

The girls mother shouted "Why is my daughter dead?" at the jury when the verdict was read out. NO JUSTICE.

That is appaling.

Somehow I doubt that your or I would get off for killing someone when doing nearly double the limit in a vehicle with a defective tyre.

Why can't they see that this attitude by the magistrates does nothing to discourage reckless actions of police officers when driving their vehicles?

It took the jury five hours to reach their verdict. I suspect the state manages to plant 'friendly' jurors in cases like this, somebody to talk the others around.

I've never had the pleasure of jury service, I often wonder about 'suitability' of jurors. Hetzer, I reckon you're spot on the money there. Any other Joe would have been hauled across the coal for that, but because the Nazi Filth know the system they get off scott free.

I absolutely do not trust any vehicle with blue lights on it any more. Even if I'm walking along on the pavement, I'll get out of their way, they all seem to be driven by absolute CUNTS of the highest order, with no common or implied sense, other than the sense of their own well being.

Yeah but even so, surely someone with a modicom of morality and sense would tell the others to get fucked theres no way he was not guilty.

Hold on, I think we've covered this before where I stated that probably being bored shitless and wanting to go home the jury will just agree on whatever to get out of there, it's pretty sad but everyone thinks for themselves until it happens to them and then they scream "wheres the justice?". Obviously we can't say for sure that this is what occured in this instance, but it does make you wonder....

Well, in fairness. If it was the tyre- it is still his fault but he would not be guilty of 'death by dangeorus driving' would he?

The hazy bit here is even if I had lawful excuse to be speeding...if I was doing 77 in a 40 and killed someone I would prob be assumed to be driving dangerously as I am a civvy.

I don't think we can assume he knew about the low pressure tyre beforehand (then it would have prob been dangerous driving)

I dont see the issue here, assuming the "tyre pressure" was just an excuse and he didnt really have prior knowledge of it, then its an unfortunate accident after he's responding to a high-priority emergency.

Put the boot on the other foot, if the call was someone being murdered/raped etc etc, and he responded by driving at the precise speed limit you'd be the first to blame him for the crime being able to take place.

Nowhere does it state the nature of the 999 call, so you cannot claim it to be a high priority emergency. I recall a radio talk from a paramedic stating that a large majority of 999 calls are non-emergency calls such as old ladies calling because their cooker isn't working, I imagine calls to the police are no different.

Sorry, forgot i read another article on the story, https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/8279110.stm

Quote:
Prosecutor Tim Parkin told the court that Pc Hart was responding to an emergency call, which was classed at "zero" - meaning it was a high priority.

Seems to be people are taking a story with very little detail given and blowing it completely out of proportion

Regardless I was under the impression that police were supposed to undergo training for driving under such circumstances. I'm sure somewhere along the line they have reiterated to them that taking on bends at 77mph on a 40 road is generally a bad idea.

Doesn't matter, ignorance is no defence, nor is knowledge of the defective tyre hence this is totally immaterial.

In that it is always the driver's responsibility to check before deciding to drive the vehicle.

If you drive a rental car with a bald tyre, it is not an excuse that it isn't your car you will still get 3 points for driving with a defective tyre you are the driver you are in control you make the rational decision to use it.

Bit like that national accident help line bloke who said he was given the wrong type of ladder and yet he still decided to use it.

At the very least the police officer should have been given 3 points for driving with a defective tyre.

Also consider this it was a police van, having driven a van at speed they are most definately not a suitable fast response vehicle, I have a certain feeling that the police officer trained up is no Sabine Smitz who drove a van at the Nurburg ring.

...and when the police are travelling the speed limit and they take 10 minutes to get to your house while your family are being butched and raped I'm sure it would be a different sorry.

Things like this are inevitable, and I don't think we can judge based or bias media coverage. Even the top figthers pilots in the world crash once in a blue moon as will the most advance of drivers. It sounds shit but if he was responding to a highiest priority call it would have been a murder or violent assault in progress. I'm sure his training was up to stratch and he was driving within what he thought where is limits, accidents happen and personally I would rather the odd accident where somebody gets killed than the police (or any emgergency services) taking a considerably longer time to turn up at an incident.

Probably a good job he never made it to the scene of the alleged crime anyway, given that the victim would have probably got banged up judging by todays standards....... Wink

Mmm, violent assuault or murder in progress... so you murder a young girl getting there?

He's training went out the fucking window, that's obvious. This death was preventable, it's mental to think that deaths caused by gung-ho cops are 'inevitable'. However, I assume you are close to uniforms and will see no fault in them.

To put the shoe on the other foot again... how are you going to feel if your soon to be wife was murdered by a cop in this same situation? Still inevitable? Just a case of "Ah, well, these things happen"?

Whichever foot the shoes on there will be somebody obviously extremely upset looking to place blame.

Quote:

Or;
Mmm, violent assault or murder in progress... but we should ignore any training we've had allowing us to drive above the road laws.

And a gung-ho cop? How can you possible make assumptions based on the articles, far too little information? It just has to be accepted that mistakes are made

I don't think you can judge any of that based on that one article. Confused
