hi.
im new to the site and i am looking to take my gilera runner 125cc 2stroke engine from my bike and put it in a 50cc gilera runner frame.

the reason for doing this is my 125 was stolen recovered. not much use, and i was going to buy a new one but 50cc bikes are cheeper to buy.

any help will be much appreciated
thanks

Dont know what the deal is .is it a scoot or mbike? First you must consider if the engine will fit the frame,i.e. the same casings as the 50.secondly does the transmission/chain line /veichle centre line all line up .If it's not an exact casing/frame fit i would'nt bother unless you like angle grinders and welders and after all that you 'll still need to check transmission alignments. \if the engines a straight swap then you need to condider the carb fitting ,if it's too big for the airbox then a K and n filter will free up some room and add a bi tof bling/power,the wiring systems may be different or the genny plates/coils may not be interchangeable so having the 125 harness and switchgear may help.the exhaust may need modding to fit,and you must consider cooling, especially in enclosed fairings and scooter bodywork. If airflow is tight you can add a couple of 12v computer fans (usually use 0.250 of an amp so low power drain .also available led lights in various colours for the modders)to keep it cooler in traffic with a switch on the bars or an electrical temperature sensor .A mate has an 1960's honda 50 stepthrough .He did'nt want to knacker what was left of the engine so he fitted a 125 lifan honda clone. Its like sh off a shovel and he's more than happy ,although he realise that its ok putting a bigger engine in but the darker side is that it will result in extra wear on the rest of the bike. Going faster means brakes /suspension/frame bushes and bearings/wheel hubs all get trashed quicker .Last summer in Greece I met the Kefalonian Road Kings ,a club of teenagers who scoot around on yam/honda/china stepthroughs.they mod them with bigger engines that fit perfect ,add 250 single carbs and add on seebrand exhausts .They spend the day and evenings wheelying up and down and can be heard for miles. One lad who the club call 'the doctor' has fitted a sparkplug in the exhaust mod .He drives along and opens the choke and the rear off the exhuast spits 5ft flames! Thesedays with massive chinese mafufacturing of japanese standards modding and mixing is a big new developing area ,
