Inspired by DaveJPS' thread on the Best Bikes of the Decade;
what does BCF think are the WORST bikes of the "noughties"?

My nominations:

1.Ninja 250r
For being overhyped, for being an underpowered twin designed to emulate the kawasaki sports range by fairing alone, without including the important sports bike aspects.
https://www.dmvtestbike.com/images/Kawasaki_Ninja_250R_2008_st3pz.jpg

2. DN-01
Honda's extremely popular cruiser-scooter. Seriously, what the hell? It's ugly, it's huge and it's automatic. This would have to be the worst "bike" of late in my opinion.
https://www.cmsnl.com/news/img/honda-dn-01.jpg

3. YZF-R125
Same reasons as the ninja 250r really. Overpriced, slow bike used to part an inexperienced fool with his money. Oh, plus it's ugly as shit.

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper.

I Have to disagree Muzza, I think they all serve a different purpose for different people, the Ninja 250 - if i had more money than sense, and was stuck to 33bhp, i'd seriously consider one. The DN-01 is, in my opinion, without question the ugliest bike i've ever seen, but for someone looking for a big bike, but can only ride an auto - then i suppose it fit's the bill.. and does resemble a (ugly) bike (better than a burgman imo) and as for the YFZ-R125, i quite like the looks of it, and if you were after a bike to look the part but weren't interested in speed at all then it would be ideal..

dont get me wrong, none of them are my cup of tea, and i'd certainly never buy one, but i can see a point in them!

Cheers
Olly

I hadn't seen a DN-01 before, I like it. Looks chunky and comfy, sort of thing that would be comfortable over distance and around town, and have big bike handling. The sort of thing where you break a sweat forcing it around corners.

Automatic would probably make it feel like it has loads or torque, getting around my main bugbear with bike engines, always changing gear.

agree with you regarding the Ninja 250.. think a lot people were thinking they were proper sportbikes like the pocket rockets of yestarday... but it's a shitty little 250cc twin dressed up as sportbike.

don't know much about the other ones although the YZF looks ok if you're a horned up 16 yo Laughing

It might "feel" like it's always giving you more torque, but you would of course be deceiving yourself. It's perfectly possible to change gears at the same revs that automatic bikes decide to change gears at Razz

And for me personally, changing gears so often on my 125 is one of the best things about it, it's fun. If you ride much larger bikes than me then I think you must be doing something wrong. On a 600 for example I'm sure you could pretty much rev to redline and then shift up two gears at a time if you wanted. To me that sounds like fun Very Happy to you it sounds like effort Laughing

Hi

Worst bikes of the decade? Pretty much any Chinese 125 (give them time and they might produce something solid as they certainly have the skills, but not sure anyone would dare touch them by then).

I would also class pretty much any Harley (with the exception of the V Rod) as bad. Badly out of date, zero engineering and styling which appears to purely be the result of pulling existing components out of a lucky dip tin.

I am also tempted to put the Benelli Tornado in there. Original styling but poorly developed and (at least until recently) badly supported. Trouble is I still fancy one.

The 250 Ninja has its place. Pity it is over priced.

Agree with Alexio that changing gear can be part of the fun.

All the best

Keith

Totally agree with this one. It makes the Ninja 250 look like a good buy Laughing

I've seen a DN-01. The way it took off when the rider gave it some throttle was quite something. The engine was almost silent, it resembled something electric.

I must be honest and say that I think the Van Van and the Yam TW's are a bag of balls.

I just don't get the point of a fuck off tractor tyre instead of something more traditional. After riding my mates TW125 and my SR125 (they share engines) I much prefer the SR. Although its meant to be slow slug of a bike (and it is) my SR would destroy the TW every time!

i will probably get hate mail for this but my worst bike of the decade is,

Honda VRF1200F

totally overhyped , and it failed on so many levels, engine nothing special, gadgets nothing special, styling not good, and the exhausts look Rolling Eyes . it was supposed to be Hondas halo bike, and it didnt delivery anything good, the BMW is still the bike to buy for new tech and gadgets.

On a side note, i quite like the look of the DN01 its new and funky, but it doesnt look as good when there is someone on it, i cant describe why, but it looks so much better on its own

The VFR1200 won't be in showrooms before next Spring, so it's not of this decade. And since only a few journos have so far ridden one, we're yet to see how good a bike it actually is in practice.

My vote goes on pretty much the whole of the Hardly range, and pretty much anything Chinese. It's rare that the Jap and even European manufacturers put out anything that can be considered truly bad these days.

None of those are bad bikes. They are just bad decisions to buy new.

A bad bike would be something ridiculously flawed like a Wuyang or a Jailing.

+1 Thumbs Up

Personally I think Ninja 250R would be a perfect first bike for my wife.. I would buy used 2008 one for £2,5k rather than new for £4k though Cool

Hi

Not sure on the DN-01. Looks ugly and not my choice, but at least it is Honda attempting to do something different with the cruisers, rather than some dodgy Harley clone.

All the best
