Front tyre rotation (Which way to mount it?)

I recently bought a new front tyre for my bike.

From what I have gathered, the front tyre is mounted this way:

With the tread streaking backwards.

However, my new tyre has a rotation arrow which suggests that it should be mounted the opposite way, like this (If you were standing in front of the bike)

This may be over-simplifying my answer but..

The arrow of rotation must point in the direction the bike goes when driving forwards.

The rotation arrow is right, so follow it.

If you think about it, the tread is correct too, it scoops the water from the centre of the tyre and pushes it out to the side to enable the centre to grip.

I'm pretty sure it shouldn't make a difference wether it's a front of back tyre!?

The tread should always be getting rid of water as fast as possible to the sides of the tyre - if this was the opposite way around it'd be forcing water under the tyre and creating less of a grip.

I use Avon Distanzia's and they are fitted as shown below:


I don't think your old tyre was fitted correctly - does it have a make/model on it at all or a directional arrow?

Not all tread patterns are equal, look at the roadsmart front. Just follow the arrow it is ALWAYS correct for the make and model of tyre.

Id still put it on the way the rotational arrow suggests....

Diablo corsa fronts are the same as the roadsmarts in the way that it looks like the tread goes the wrong way (99% sure anyhoo!)

My Pilot Road 2's have the rear pushing water outwards, and the front pulling it inwards (yes I have checked the rotation symbol on both tyres). Don't worry about it.

TBH I'm not sure it matters that much, I put my front and rear tyres back on the rim accidentally many times on my big trip. I was far too loathed to put them back the right way, the millions of mozzies were an incentive to get moving soon as.
