Anyone have problems with the visor sealing against the helmet?

Possibly getting one as my next helmet coming from a shoei, which allows you to adjust how the visor fits against the seal so you can stop any wind leaking in

Cheers guys and have a good christmas

I have a car racing Arai but I have no such problems. It's like wearing a duvet on my head.

If you bought it from a 5 star dealer take it in and get it serviced, it is free and they can fix it in seconds, have you tried using the silicon lube that came with it?

if you want to adjust an arai visor against the seal, take the outer pods off and put the visor back onto the base plates, then you close the visor so it is locked, undo the base plate screws and then push and hold the visor against the seal, then retighten the screws, you can then check how tight it is by trying to stick the corner of a piece of paper between the seal and visor all the way round inside, when you're happy with the seal remove the visor, replace the outer pods and then put the visor back on, if unsure take it to a five star dealer who should be experienced enough to do this operation is minutes

excellent, sounds like the Arai adjustments are pretty much the same as the Shoei.

Any recommendations for a Shoei XR 1100 over an Arai Viper GT or the other way around?

All my lids have been arai viper GT.Love those lids but they can be a bit noisey at 150-180mph Laughing (ear plugs sorts that out though Wink )
My missus prefers shoei though but i think that is only because of the designs she liked.

I tried both on last time i got a new lid and honestly theres a HUGE difference in the way they fit a head.I couldnt even get a shoei on...it just felt really weird no matter what size i tried....so you absolutely MUST go and try them on before you buy. Exclamation

Incidentally....i`m currently selling mine and the missus lids (arai viper gt and shoei raid 2) because i wont be back on 2 wheels till next summer.Theyre both under 6 months old, with receipts,so if you want any more info or photos just send me a message.
Got some other stuff too,all nearly new.....but i`ll tell you about that if you get in touch

Shoei or Arai.

Which ever fits your head best.

I have both an Xr1000 and an Arai Quantum (old!)...

Personaly prefer the fit of the Arai, but neither hurt my head. I did have to change the cheek pads to thicker ones in the Shoei though.

you put shoei on from the rear of your head, as the inside is curved at the back, if you try and pull it down from the top you'll find it more difficult, and the shop staff should have advised you of this

both helmets fitted nicely, but never having owned an Arai before i wasnt sure about the visor mechanism.

there dont seem to be many xr 1000 in the size and style i want around anymore so ive given up looking for one of those for the sake of my dark visor fitting it!

love the uk flag viper so i think im going for one of those when all the shops open again.

anyone used helmetcity.com before?

I have Arai Tour-X and Shoei Synchrotec. I think Arai has better sealing than Shoei. There's last "Click" on Arai when you close the visor, but not on Shoei.

Having already posted i currently own a JR rep viper gt, bought from helmetcity, paid, was delivered when said, and packaged well with a good price really, only issue is if you pay on a card where its not being sent and isnt a place of your work then they wont send because of insurance reasons

I can vouch for their shop, but I've not used their online service before.
They price matched a Shoei Multitec, against an online retailer in-store knocking about £80 off their price.

I'd definately recommend them.

I'm the other way around, Arai's won't even go over my eyebrows (shell is too small) unless I go for a huuuge size with a bigger shell... But then they're way too loose.

Always try a selection of lids and get one that fits really well.

The visor mechanism on my Arai is pretty much my only grievance with it, a week or 2 of visor swapping and it quickly needs adjusting again, best case you get a little whistling at certain speeds, worst case you get a jet of air blasting over your eyes which is pretty unpleasant.

It's a shame as in every other way my Chaser is faultless, it'd still happily pass off as a new lid if it wasn't for a pair of marks that were my own fault, it's proper comfy and the fit is spot on.

Replacing it is going to be a tough act, I'll probably wind up with a Shark RSR2 or one of those BMW/Schuberth lids, the Arai sidepods are not really worth the hassle imo.

I have the new quantum which if I am honest so far is not pushing my buttons. Flimsy thin visor and the mechanism feels a bit clunky. Also got the Shoei xr-1100 and shark rsr2 carbon and I tend to wear the shark most out of them.

Just testing the arai so it may redeem itself somehow during the review - time will tell.

Applies to all lids. If it didn't, you'd have a massive space between the back of your head and the helmet.

If you buy an Arai and it doesn't fit perfectly, or you get alot of wind noise or movement at very high speed , you can get it padded out to fit your head. This service is provided by Arai for free. You can either get your local Arai stockist to get a rep to come to the store and do it for you, or you can get it done at the arai tent / stand at most big bike shows.

Had both my Arai's custom fitted, and it made a great fitting lid fit perfectly Wink
