I sold my CBR400 to someone in the USA and they want me to ship it there. Does anyone know of any reliable companies and roughly how much it costs?

Thanks in advance

No idea, I guess you'll have to ring around some freight companies and see.

Shipping abroad sounds very much like a scam, I always specify no foreign buyers. I have heard it costs a lot to put a bike in a container and send it over to the US.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

i think it will be in the region of £1,500 - £2,000 they said they would pay.

I did say collection only in the listing , and i know it will be a pain to arrange but they met the reserve price which is what i wanted and the next highest bid was half that, so im left with no choice really.

I say Scam!!!

Why would they want to pay that amount for shipping when you can buy most bikes in the US regardless and maybe for cheaper.

Be carefull

Yes it does seem strange but i have said you MUST pay the full amount for the bike and shipping costs , or the sale is off. So i await their reply.

You want to ship your bike to the US?

There are three companies.

James Cargo.

https://www.jamescargo.com/motorcycle_transportation/

I asked for 6 quotes earlier this year, they stick it in a box and fly it costs £750 to fly the bike undisassembled, they strap it to a pallet and build a box around it. If you take the bike apart then you can get quotes as low as £520. (Bike was CBR600F size and weight).

Or you can get James to LCL it for you and then you can ship a disassembled bike anywhere on the planet for £450.

There is another company called freight movers international in Rainham, Felixstowe, they charge £400 for 3.5cubic metres and a £100 handling fee to New York or Panama, Korea was £380.

Cargo ship shipping is cheaper outwards as container ships generally go back to Asia empty.

There is also a company called Wilmus wilheim somebody on BCF works for them, you can ship it from Portsmouth RoRo to Long Beach California, Los Angeles or Panama (costs more ro get to LA as you have to pay a portion of the Panama canal costs).

If they pay up front or stick it in escrow do it..

James Cargo flying the bike out is regarded as reliable company by Horizon Unlimited community. Terry flew his XTZ660 out to Korea with them cost him £470. A few other people shipped to the US for £420. Their shipping via sea is less regarded by the HUBB.

Flying is MOST definately the way to go, namely as you can get to any airport in the US it takes 24 hours to get there and thus you won't be pestered for is it there yet type questions. And it will be off loaded in 12 hours upon landing, Off loading from a ship can take days sometimes weeks, if your LCL (less than container load) container is at the bottom of the ship it will take ages.

EDIT phone these companies ! , James Cargo takes decades to reply to email quotations, phone they can give you a quote in 24 hours!.
