I have a 1991 FZR600 only 91 HP at the back wheel.... but STILL FUN TO RIDE!.... anyways i need help on something. I bought my bike about a month ago and during the first couple times i was riding it the front sprocket actually came off while i was riding, well i went up to my local bike shop and got the parts they said i would need to fix this problem. when they gave me the part it waz a washer and a nut that bolts down to hold the sprocket in place... well when i went to put it all back together there where no threads where the nut was supposed to bolt down i called the guy i bought the bike from and he said it wasnt a nut that holds it down he had put an aftermarket sprocket on it and he said it was some kind of "bent clip" whatever that means so thats where i need yalls advice what is this clip called and where can i find it!? please help thanks... |

Possibly a split pin or a circlip.
If theres a hole through the shaft its a split pin you want, and the pin goes through the hole and opens out at one end.
If theres a grove running round the shaft a circlip will clip in to this groove.
These are the only things I can think of off the top of my head at the mo. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Hi
This is not an uncommon problem with Yamahas. The problem is that the sprockets come off and then they wear away the thread on the output shaft from the gearbox. The result is that you cannot then bolt the sprocket in place properly.
There is not easy fix for this.
If you are really lucky then you can recut the thread. If you want to bodge it then you can weld the sprocket onto the shaft, but then you will not be able to change the front sprocket.
The only real fix is to strip the engine down and replace the output shaft from the gearbox.
All the best
