Heya all i NEED some advice quick!
took my NSR in for its first service (500 miles) got it back and after bike was doin over 40mph and i pulled the clutch in i notice a low groan/wine comming from rear tire.... when i let the bike decelerate (with/without) brakes at around 20 the noise gets a little louder and i can feel rough vibration through the footpeg....got home n noticed a piece of wire wedged into the sproket fittings (where its bolted to rear wheel) and pulled it free.....took bike 4 a spin n its still doin it.....it aint the chain i know that.the mechanic recons it's the 'clutch freewheeling' or it may be the engine but i sure as hell don't belive it.... fellas i need help Sad Sad Sad

cherz!

yup looked at that....wheel spinds freely....chain tension is spot on.....not kinked areas.........its just as i hit 40 it becomes aparent and when i pull in the clutch (the engine noise fades) and you can hear it clearly then......when decelerating towards 20 it is quite loud and feels like somthing is rubbing or grinding........
y'know the sound that cars with big tires or landrovers make from time to time when there doing around 30? it kinda sounds like that.........but it just started when i got the bike back from its service.........i did notice that the mechanic tightned the rear axel nut with a normal wrench n not a torque wrench
cherz 4 ur reply

Hi

I virtually never use a torque wrench on the wheel spindle bolts. The main things I would think of would be a shot chain (and you have already checked that), or a knackered wheel bearing. Check for play. I have a set once go from no play to totally collapsed with the balls falling out in 15 miles. After that check the brakes are fine. Also, depending on whether it is a noise or a feeling, check the steering head bearings. If these are overtightened (esepcially it they are worn) they can cause an odd wobble, but I would not expect you to heat any noise from them

All thebest

Hi

Check the chain for any tight spots or links that are sticking. If that still comes up with nothing then take off the fairing around the front sprocket, take off the front sprocket cover and check that the sprocket is secure

All the best
