This might be a silly question, but would I be able to drain some of the battery acid from my old battery to use in my new tiny 6v battery for the CB? Neutral

Possibly if the specific gravity is correct.

You should be aware of the reason why the other battery failed, that the fluid may be contaminated and that a new pack is only a couple of quid.

You can't use 12v acid in a 6v battery, it will explode Wink

You probably could use the acid from an old battery, but it will definatly shorten the life of the new one because the acid will already be contaminated with lead and sulphates so will have resistance and build up diposites on your new plates.

If your new battery has come without acid I would suggest taking it to a bike shop (Or even a car place) and getting them to fill it for you with fresh stuff, They might not sell you the acid on its own but they will deffo fill it for you for pennies.

Its not quite the same. 12v tastes different, lick it and see.

Not a good idea, as the acid from an old battery is likely to be mixed with deionised water and also contaminated and manky.

M&P sell acid packs for £1.50 a pop, which are sufficient for filling two small 6V batteries.

Only if he gets the polarity of the acid wrong Wink .

Most battery instructions tell you not to top up a battery with acid but to only use deionised water. Suspect any half decent local bike shop will fill the battery for you for peanuts.

All theb est

Yep, that's a shitter...unless you're ordering a load of other stuff at the same time. M&P postal charges are low, so long as you have a big list of things to buy (which I usually do) Wink

You have to be careful to put the acid in the right way up on 6V batteries. 12V acid had to be this way up, 6V has to be the other way round but many have never had to fill anything but a 12 volt battery and so put the acid in upside down.
