Mod 1 booked...

I've got a full day of training lined up tomorrow, and a half day + Mod 1 on Thursday. Will be my first time on a 500 and I can't wait!

Weather forecast is bloody awful - sleet and heavy rain for the first day, and light rain for the test day. Temps are 3C maximum - but they said that for today and we still have a heavy frost at midday Sad

Anyway, wish me luck...

I was fortunate enough to do the old test pretty much days before the new test was rolled out so I can't offer much advice in the way of Mod 1/Mod 2 I'm afraid. Hope all goes well for you mate Thumbs Up

Good luck, as has been said just relax and you'll be fine!

Also, don't forget as soon as the examiner tells you to sit on your bike, you are under test conditions before you even start the module 1 manouveres.

Also; mirror mirror, shoulder shoulder. Wink

Spent this morning doing the Mod 1 manouvers with my examiner, then a long road ride, then more mod 1 practice.

Torrential rain, standing water and very poor visibility didn't help. Fastest I managed on the swerve was 49kph - not quite good enough but the test centre layout is slightly bigger so hopefully will manage a bit more speed. I'm hoping the test centre is slightly better drained so I don't have to do do the swerve and the emergency stop in 10mm of standing water like I did today Sad

I managed to keep it together but the other trainee on an RS125 locked up several times, including a front lock up that he was very lucky to save.

On the plus side, riding the ER-5 (with heated grips thank god) was a revelation after a 125 - the torque really makes things easier.

You'll be surprised at the size of the Mod 1 centre that the test is conducted on when you see it, it's MASSIVE.

I did 58kph on the swerve and 57kph on the emergency stop on my Gilera SC125 so it's easily doable on the 500s, just take the right line around the bend.

Sucks about the rain though, just ignore it and ride safely. Thumbs Up

and remember to treat it like your on a road..check mirrors and do life savers even when walking with your bike.

Good luck with your module one- you'll be fine on a 500, if I managed it on a 125 it is very do-able on a 500 Wink

Just try not to go too fast otherwise it will be difficult to swerve, and dont forget those checks Smile

Bollocks, failed it Evil or Very Mad

Absolutely pissing down and I could barely see, not that that is any excuse.

What was completely inexcusable was while I was doing the figure of eight I brushed the yellow cone at the end of the slalom with my boot - not enough to move it but just enough to rock it slightly - tester spotted it (he told me after that it's fine to go the other side of the last yellow cone).

Anyway he let me finish the test off - managed a 58 on the emergency stop but only a 44 and 48 on the swerve so I would have failed anyway.

Went back to Dunsfold to do more Mod 1 practice (great ride back not being able to see a thing) but the practice area was standing water and after locking up the rear several times, and at one point completely spinning up the back wheel trying to accelerate so we called it a day.

I realised on the ride home on my 125 that I have never ridden a bike in the dry since I passed my CBT 5 weeks ago Sad

Sorry to hear that Nick but it sounds like you had awful conditions to contend with and if you've only been riding for 5 weeks then you're doing brilliantly.

I'm sure you'll nail it next time, at least you know exactly what to expect and what is required of you.
