Bike to bike intercoms .....

Any one reccomend a good (sub £150) bike to bike intercom system, idealy one thats easily changed from bike to bike , Ie not hard wired like an autocom.

If by good you mean an entirely functional solution then I would buy the two cheapest walkie-talkies you can find that have standard 3.5mm stereo jack plugs for the speaker and mic. Then you just have an ear plug and a cheap microphone - or a headset thingy - with some foam around the mic to stop horrible wind sound.

Most places that do CBT / bike lessons use this kind of set up I think.

Some of the walkie talkies I've used only broadcast if it could hear you talking, and they can easily go in your pocket as a bike to bike solution As for comfort, surely that's just a case of finding any ear plugs that you can use on a bike like normal.

Otherwise I think you might be looking at those bluetooth helmets?

You don't have to hard wire Autocom systems. Get an older model off ebay. They beat other systems hands down in my experience.

I got Cobra MT800's for £70-£80 with bar mounted push to talk button the ear pads are comfy just gotta find a decent place for the microphone its good for just running around at low speeds but on a motorway its harder to hear but my bikes loud so thats probably to blame.

I use the Scala Rider Teamset clicky.

Takes about 2 minutes to swap from helmet to helmet and works perfect, couldn't ask for anything more. Connects to my phone, allows me to answer the phone, bring the pillion into the conversation, listen to music and chat to the pillion. .

I can recommend the Scala Rider headset too.
We used it on our Europe trip and charged it every night on the 12v adapter I had fitted to my bike. You can listen to radio, mp3 and if you have a bluetooth phone you can make and receive calls as well.

A guy I work with uses his Autocom without hard wiring it. It does seem a bit of a faf though when putting on your gear. I think he eventually put a power lead to allow him to plug in as it was eating batteries.

Remember that Autocom have gone into administration though, so the support direct from them won't be too good, although there are plenty of knowledgeable people around on various forums.

Personally I'd look at getting an ok throat mic and earphones you like, then get an adaptor to add these to the radio of your choice.

I found cheaper alternatives such as those from maplins etc worked ok at best sub 50mph but anything above that they were useless. Splashed out on the autocoms in the end and to be honest yes it is a lot of money but you really get what you pay for. Starcom are also another good alternative from what I have been told as is the scala rider headset. The autocom setup I use allows me to quickly disconnect the autocom unit from my bike and had a 12v cell connector which allowed me to use it pretty much anywhere I had my helmet on.

Please dont waste your money on anything cheaper as it will undoubtably be rubbish.
