Just sat at home bored and fancy a read so can anyone reccomend any good bike mags?

I've already read 'Which Bike?' and this months 'Superbike'. Are there any other good ones out?

The ones I read mostly are:
Bike
Ride
And some other one I can't remember the name of.

But Bike is love, black neckwarmer is so snug.

Bike and T.W.O, fairly similar these days or RiDE. Performance Bikes is ok if you want tits and ass with some dodgy modded bikes, shame, used to be a good mag too.

TWO, that is the other one.
They are all good reading IMO, and some fun freebies occasionally.

Everyone seems to read Bike but i've never actually seen it in my news agents. They either don't stock it or they sell out as soon as they get them in. I think i'll pop on there later and see whats in stock.

Thanks guys.

I know they sell it in Tesco.
Most newsagents near me just sell papers/TV guides/comics.

If it's not in the news agents, then try a supermarket. Though I would have thought even a small news agent would stock it.

Bike mainly, nice freebies in it too. I can usually find it in Sainsbury's if I'm in there, but not in the Co-op, and not in the nearest Tesco. Having said that, I usually get it in Sainsbury's within a day or two of it's publishing, and it sells out pretty quickly.

Bike and RiDE are ok IMO, TWO is full of stuff that I don't read about BSB and scooters. TWO seems to me to be for the "Fashionable biker" not someone who is really into bikes IMO.
Its just a feeling I get when I read the mag of course.

RiDE can feel a little patronising at times but I have never found Bike to have a tone that I don't like.

Again performance bikes is good, but like the "newbie" feeling you get sometimes from RiDE, you have to ignore the hooligan/tits and ass element in it. They do occasionally do some really funny stuff like when they tested the saying "This bike handles like its on rails". They took the tyres off of a thundercat and proceeded to try and ride it along a railway line!

Fast Bikes and Superbike... Well I find both pretty dull. They spend all of their editorial column space bitching at each other and they don't seem to give a balanced opinion of anything unless its the latest litre supersports bike/stickiest tyre/whatever. Also the editor of Superbike had hardly ridden a motorbike before he got the job, and there are questions as to wether the people at fast bikes can ride or not too... but then, thats what I get for reading all of the bitching in the editorials!

UBG (used bike guide) is good, but a lot of the articles come across as amateurish compared to the bigger magazines, and I have noticed a few technical mistakes in some of them. The content is good though, and is always different from the run of the mill bike mags. The secondhand bike information is comprehensive too.

Streetfighters - Not read this one, but it looks like another hooligan tits and ass bike mag - except without the sportsbikes.

BSH (Back Street Heroes) Again, not read it, but it has the obligatory naked lady in the centre. Its mainly about customs as far as I can tell.

Classic Bike - not read this one either, but its from the same stable as Bike and RiDE, so it will be respectable and knowledgeable.

MCN (Motorcycle News): This one gets slated a lot as being a big behemoth and popular, but it sometimes talks crap. I wouldn't personally say that was true, but I often find myself buying it and then finding out that I have read all of the interesting bits in five minutes. Occasionally they will have a gem of an article, but on the whole I only get it if there is stuff in it about Triumphs or if I'm very bored.

Apologies for the monster post. Smile

Used to buy Performance Bikes quite a bit, then just realised half of it is adverts, half is telling you about their bikes, with a few photos, so though fuck that, and now buy Bike, good in depth reviews and hardly any adverts.

I also try and buy Supermoto magazine if i can find it in the shop, becuase its quite rare.

Hi

Pretty much with MarJay. PB used to be a really good bike but about 10 years ago went down hill and seemed to get proud of how many bikes they are written off that month.

Classic Mechanics magazine can be quite good if you like 70s~90s machines.

All the best

Keith

I've read TWO, I find it is quite good for reviews and stuff. Ride is OK but not much reading in it. I suppose it depends on the free gift in what one you buy.

I used to quite like MSL (Motorcycle Sport and Leisure)

It's known for being for the older person, but I kinda liked it, decent reviews, the concentrated on reliability and stuff like that instead of how fast can this thing go etc.

Another one I read alot is Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics, I like old Jap bikes and this Mag seems to cater for quite abit of it, its quite good too how they have sections on how to overhall brakes and stuff, even though there on "classics" there quite relevent to some modern stuff too. Smile!

I also find UBG a good read to when I'm on the look out for a new bike and junes issue also helped me make my mind up with buying my new bike (a ZZR600).

Bike - always has been the best, I've got a loft full of old copies.

PS Does anyone else think the Dan Walsh articles about travelling through the Americas are some of the best bike writing they've ever read?

I started reading Superbike way before I began riding, so I've stuck with it, occasionally reading PB or FB if there seems to be something interesting in it, like this months PB was a kneedown issue. After recently dropping the bike on a corner, I figured I may learn something, but I didn't. Still, I got free sliders!

I'll have to branch out and have a mosey at Ride and Bike.

Second that - "(Classic & Motorcycle) Mechanics" is an informative read - so much so that it's the only one I subscribe to . . . recommended

RiDe really informative on the whole, but far too short, you can read most copies cover to cover in an hour, and their reviews tend to be a bit brief

but the "bike" is too detailed so i dont really know what the ideal is, i dont buy bike, cos its full of shit i dont want to read, and i dislike the writing styles

T.W.O mag i always buy, i've bought every copy since it came out in Jan 2002, probly one of the best reads, with a decent section on bike racing as well, also strikes me as the best put together magazine with a high quality feel from it, and decent interesting photo's

used bike guide, i finally found somewhere that sells it (smiths at london waterloo station) and i was quite impressed with that, its a useful size as well, and focuses on more stuff you wouldnt read in the other bike mags

the rest like PB, superbike, and FB i all find immature and annoying

Trail Bike Rider (or whatever it actually is) - not my cup o char, but quality

I'm just a bit of a magazine whore I think

Although I buy Ride quite a lot of the time, it all depends on what the free gift is/what bike is having a major review...

£3.50+ per magazine soon adds up as well! It's a habit I'm trying to get under control...

I get motorcycle mechanics, its always good.

I get UBG, but to be quite frank its been shit for the last 6 issues. I like reading about the bikes bought for 50 quid in shit state and ridden for 40000 miles on bald tyres. Now its all new things I can't hope to afford.

Car mechanics is good too.
