There's been topics on this before but my question is about how to keep them up.

I can wheelie my bike through first gear then I run out of revs in 1st ( I know, gold star for me)

But how do you keep it going? Every time I try and change into second gear, I lose the wheelie and it just drops instantly. How do you wheelie through the gears and keep it smooth?

I've got a years no claims on the current insurance and it's up for renewal in May.

However, I turned 25 in November and did a few quotes and it's almost halved for me. Currently with Simply Bikes paying £485 fully comp. I've had a few at around £230...

Is there any way of stopping my current insurance, taking out a new policy and keeping the NCB or transferring it?

I know I will probably have to pay a cancelation fee but I didn't pay for it all up front, it's monthly payments.

That second reply was supposed to be another topic but might as well leave it there as well.

Not sure about the wheelies mate - my knob's of adequate size and I have no need to make up for it Razz Laughing

As for the insurance, don't bother cancelling as you've only got 5 months to go to rack up an extra years NCB, it'll cost you to cancel and you'll have wasted the last 7 months Thumbs Up

You need to pull the front wheel higher up so you need less forward speed to maintain the wheelie.

The higher the front goes, the less you need to accelerate. The reason it drops back down when you try and change up is because the front isn't high enough.

Make sure you cover the rear brake aye. Wink

Have you managed to get to balancing point yet?

if its the ninja in your pic it should clutch up in second. makes it easier to balance in a higher gear because you've got more time to react to smoother movements unlike the jerky shit you tend to get in first gear.

To keep it going further, higher is needed basically.
To change up, a clutchless shift into second at a reasonable height should do it.
Definitely be careful and cover the rear brake.

If it's dropping instantly I would say the chances of that are slim.

The other option is to learn to change gear faster so the front doesn't drop as much when you're on a closed throttle.

I've got the balancing point nailed, I can keep it up and balance it to redline in first then it has to come down unless I try an change to 2nd which makes it drop when I clutch it.

It is the ninja in my pic Matt but it's a bitch to clutchless shift from 1st to 2nd, doesn't seem to want to do it when I'm riding normally nevermind doing a wheelie.

I've done a few in 2nd but it's allot harder because it's getting the feel right and if you get it wrong in 2nd, you're going allot faster than in 1st.

Big Ham, it's not that balancing that's the problem, it's the technique of changing from 1st to 2nd, I'm obviously doing it wrong and it drops back down when I try.

you dont have balance because your running out of revs. you can keep a bike on 1 wheel with the front wheel a foot off the floor all the way to redline, doesnt mean its balancing.

learn to clutchless shift. simple as that for doing it on one wheel

You aren't at the balancing point then.

The balancing point is where you're maintaining a constant speed with the front in the air, and if you go any further you're going over the back(unless you catch it on the rear brake).

If you were at the BP then you wouldn't be running out of revs. Wink

Ah ok, my understanding of the BP was slightly different. Feels as high as I can go without going too far and looping it. I think I need to carry on doing them in 1st and get it spot on before worrying about trying to get it into 2nd then. Everything gets allot scarier the faster you're going, especially trying to control a wheelie at that speed.

The balance point is basically the point that you can stay at the same height without increasing revs.
It actually gets lower with more speed, as the air holds the bike up a bit.
Starting in gear may well help smooth it out, but can put a bit of stress on the clutch with stock gearing.
I always found first gear wheelies on the zx6 not too bad with stock gearing.

It might be worth getting someone to film some for you - it's usually a bit depressing and you find it's actually a lot lower than it feels (apart from on the TRX, where it turned out I was actually keeping it balanced at around 11'o'clock, which actually scared me a bit when I watched the video!)

Went out with my brother few month back and recorded a few bit it was too wet and the back wheel just spinning everywhere. I'll try an get some when the weather clears up a bit.

I am no wheelie king, but when I do give it a bash, I tend to 'hoik' her up in first, then whilst the front is still on the rise from the initial up, clutchless short-shift to second and carry it from there, if the front still rises sharply, then I click 3rd, the higher the gear, the easier it is to control the wheelie, in 1st it is WAY too jerky ... so my Penny Coin Penny Coin is to get it up the gears ASAP!! Thumbs Up

These guys are typically good at messing about when they hit balancing point.

You can see 'where it is', because no matter how they do the next stunt the bike stays up there. Thumbs Up

It's basically down to your level of fear and what you'll do until you get there, most sports/tourer/commuter bikes 500cc~ are capable of that stuff you shouldn't have any trouble.

Yes, basically as technowizpvtltd said, you either need to use more Mumbai based web design companies as you change from first to second to maintain enough acceleration to hold the bike up or you need to employ extra Mumbai based web design companies to find the balance point...it's definitely a Mumbai based web design issue of some sort anyway.
