Buying a cat c/d bike as a project.

Been playing around with the idea of getting either a cat c or d write off, or even a non runner to use as a little project.

I know they won't be worth as much as a bike that hasn't been written off, So it will be something to either use as a track bike or even as a streetfighter type bike.

Was just wandering if anyone has had any experiences of doing this, and if there was any advice on how to go about it.

Its just a thought at the minute, Just trying to weigh the pros and cons of it all.

Any advice on how to, Or even how not to go about it will be greatly appreciated.

go for it, a lot of the time the damage is hardly worth looking at. i bought my zx7r for a lot cheaper than they usually go for and only cost £150 to fix and get it back on the road.

Careful where you buy it from - a lot of breakers will sell Cat Ds with smashed fairings for about the price you can buy a shiny not-recorded bike in good condition from a private seller, if you shop around a bit.

More often than not, there's bound to be some in the classified sections. MCNNinjas I know has a pretty comprehensive selection of bikes, and occasionally the odd Cat C/D bike comes up, sometimes belonging to established members which you can trust.

It's nice to have a project bike, which I believe is what you're looking for. Sometimes if you do wildcard searches on ebay and specifically put in CAT-C/D then a good few bikes will come up.When I was searching for my thou, I was specifically looking for CAT C/D's since they're absolute bargains. I eventually got a low-mileage (for it's year) CBR929 for £2100 when everywhere else was £3k (private). It was a steal and other than the fact it was CAT-C, it was mint... and it's still in good condition now. Sometimes you benefit from the ignorance of others, i.e. people who cannot be bothered to do simple fixes.

If anything, I'd run a HPI check to make sure it hasn't been stolen or a ringer and try to find one where the frame hasn't been damaged.
