could be the cold affecting it?
change the battery's first in the fobs and i think there's one in the alarm itself too.
first have a look inside the alarm to save you buying batteries
it might be corroded and it will be scrap if it is unless your lucky.
give it a squirt of wd40 and see if it improves
personally id bin it as there a pain once they start playing up.
check your ins first though as some insurance will be void if its removed.

slightly off topic, the 7r i just picked up has a veto plus installed, its currently in valet mode so irritatingly beeps every fecking 30seconds or whatever.
i need new batteries for the fobs, but i cant find any information online to the type of batteries it takes, iv bought several, none of which fit, wondered if you fancy nipping the back off the fob and letting me know what battery it takes?? |

Said it before on here, but I had three Datatool alarms on different bikes. I ended up binning all three of them, I tried Datatool site and followed de-spiking instructions to no avail.
They are very expensive on replacement circuit boards too, not worth the hassle in my opinion.
I would rip it out and start again with another make alarm.

edited to add.
the problems I had with the first one on the Firestorm sounded much like your probs with the Hornet (as far as I remember).
random alarm activations, inability to disarm etc. I thought the problem was solved after de spiking but it waited till I was out miles from home then packed in altogether, disabling the bike ____________________ I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realise that what you heard is not exactly what I meant |

as i can't find batteries anywhere for the fob, and the beeping is driving me mental (it does it even when the bike is started ffs), i was considering tearing it out also and flogging it on ebay, assuming i hadn't damaged it removing it.
but i have no idea how to remove the damned thing, I would like to avoid leaving my bike immobolised trying to remove it!
Im going to assume as its in valet mode already, i can just go ahead and remove it and not have to worry about it disabling my bike? |

| MarkJ wrote: | Thanks for the help everyone. I replaced the battery for the alarm and that hasn't solved anything. I don't think the Veto+ has a fuse (the Evo does though, as I have that one my other bike) so can't replace that, unless it's inside the alarm? Power supply to the alarm is fine also.
The thing that has me stumped is I can leave the bike for hours and it won't go off, other times I can leave it for a matter of seconds and it'll go off. There are replacement Veto+ alarms on eBay which I am tempted to get, however it may be quicker to just buy a full wiring loom. Does anyone know if inside the alarm all the wires are on a connector block (so I could just unclip the alarm from the wires and clip a new alarm in), or soldered in? |
not a hope in hell mate.
it will be hard wired soldered and some resin too for vibration resistance
bin it and get a new one if your insurance insists you have one.
or you could disable it and leave it in place so its there for people to see if you have a claim |

Yes, very interesting indeed. I was the OP on a previous thread with a Veto Plus showing pretty similar symptoms. My old CBR has recently had a new battery for the bike and a new battery for the alarm, yet still it will go off every time its armed.
My bike is still on the workbench for the moment so no big loss being in service mode, other than the annoying beep.
I will watch progress on this thread with interest. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

I'm not a sparky but I didn't have much trouble getting the (hard wired) alarm off the Firestorm. Tank and seat off, then traced the wires through from the alarm, it was pretty clear when all the tape was off which wires on the bike loom had been cut and spliced. simple enough to solder them all back together when the alarm wiring was taken out. It was much the same on the Zx636. Big problem on the Speed Triple as no one will give you a blanking plug for the bike wiring loom (mate got me one in the end)
