Hi all I have a chinese 125, runs great, hasnt shaken itself to bits over 2K miles and its from brand new so I'm hopeful it lasts.

Heres the thing I noticed this strange widening of the pipe just before the pipe on the exhaust meets the bit where the exhaust widens toward the back, It's underneath the back brake pedal, the exhaust appears to widen and appears to have had a piece of pipe welded between the downpipe and the part where it widens, the section is considerably noticeably wider in diameter and approximately 6 inches long.
Does anyone have any idea what this is because I haven't seen it on any other 125's.

Please see the attachment for a picture of what I'm talking about if the description is, well confusing.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated

Wayne

It's probably where they push the rear section into the downpipe and then weld it up to seal it.

Can't think of any other explanation.

Dont look anything like a cat or the such just a bit to weld the downpipe size to a std exhaust thats needed a mid section making to change the diameter..the china bikes are made from parts made by hundreds of parts suppliers

Yep owned from new and I actually have another I keep off the road (for spares) exactly the same thing on it apart from the rust which I put down to bad chroming which is only aesthetic.

I don't think there'd be a need for a wider section of tubing to "connect" the two parts unless theres something in there.

what if they just use a sleeve because its easier?

no need to have one pipe tapered and then slid inside.. just slide on end inside sleave and other end in sleave and weld. surely a cheaper method of making an exhause, literally one sized bore pipe.

or...

maybe over there they are one piece pipes, then when it comes to shipping, cut in half to fit better in the box, easy repair... sleeve.

I doubt its a shipping thing as the parts came crated from china directly like that. Just a wild guess but could it be something limit the exhaust gas flow from coming out too quickly? Or back pressure? I appreciate the replies guys. - Wayne
