Posted: 17:58 - 05 Jan 2010 Post subject: Cheap helmet cams on eBay |
 |
|
I know that the MD80 and the MUVI are both popular helmet cams, which are pretty decent for those buying on budget. I'm one of those people, and i've found these 2 cameras on eBay.
The first one looks like an exact copy of the MD80, and all the details are exactly the same. It's really cheap, and the feedback from those that bought it is good, for the money i thought i should atleast give it a go, or should i stay clear?
Here's the link:

This next one is completely different, and i've never seen or heard of it, but again, the feedback is good for those that bought it, and it does look good with the helmet strap, so should i go for this one or stay clear?
Here's the link:

If anybody has bought one of these, could you tell me what they're like?
I'm considering the MD80 lookalike at the moment, the other one looks cheap and tacky. The MD80 one is probably just a cheap chinese copy, but if it's got the same description as the MD80 and MUVI themselves, then it must do the same job, especially with looking at the feedback
Bit skeptical, but hopefully, with some help, you guys can guide me the right way
Thanks in advance |

I just thought the same thing after reading what you put... Fuck it.
Got myself the same one
Looking forward to getting it actually
Lets just both wait and see how "amazingly brilliant" it is
I basically made you blow £30 on something you never intended on getting if it turns out to be a pile of shit, it's all my fault i guess |

Yes. Your fault
And i will have no hesitation on blaming you.
Really... I've been looking for a cam for ages. But after deciding that i couldn't justify paying 70 quid on one. Now 30. Different story.

Hi
If you're interested in seeing the quality of the muvi check out my youtube page https://www.youtube.com/kivon666 all the videos on that are done with the muvi and a voice recorder and later editting to sync the two.
The sound on the muvi just does not work when trying to speak with wind noise and engine noise, I made my own custom mount basicly just a piece of plastic that slides down the side of my helmet right behind the visor with the muvi taped to the plastic.
I can't be assed to blabber on right now but if you want / need to know more about the muvi feel free to ask ____________________ Current bike : Suzuki GP 125 1982 |

I hope that it is a real one for that price. Fake ones go for about £12 (without memory card)
If its got slide switches and the video doesnt have any date/time stamp then its a real one. If its got buttons and a date/time stamp then its a fake one.
Fake ones are alright imo. File sizes are stupidly huge and dont really need to be, you're talking like 4GB per hour compared to 1GB per hour on the real one and basically the same quality. Date stamp is a bit gay too. ____________________ My bikes are at https://www.bikepics.com/members/dynamight/ |

I asked the seller, and it's definitely the one pictured, which has the slide switches, and it doesn't look glossy like the fake ones which are about £12, those ones have the buttons, and where it says VOX on the one i've bought, it says MODE instead on the £12 ones.
I don't have a clue about the date/time at the bottom of the screen, i hope it hasn't got that, because it's stupid. Just got to wait and see
I did get the little kit included, which has the head strap, different mounts and the rubber silicone skin etc... I asked about that before i bought it |

Hate to break it to you mate, but i've received mine, and i'm not happy
For a start it's not the one pictured, even though i emailed the seller, who said it's definitely the one in the picture. Then secondly, it's got the buttons in stead of the slide switches, and is basically the fake one you can get for £12.
I haven't unwrapped anything, everything is still sealed, luckily i can see it through the cellophane. I've emailed the seller and asked for a full refund, because the information he gave me was incorrect, they lied and said it was the one pictured.
I've looked at there returns policy and it seems like they only do it for faulty goods, but i'll have to see...
Wish you hadn't wasted your money on this shit mate, i'm just going to throw in an extra £20 and get myself the proper Veho MUVI one
Sorry though ThatHornet, if it wasn't for me posting this topic, you wouldn't have just thrown your money away, if you haven't got it yet, whatever you do, don't open it, ask for a refund straight away.
I'm pretty gutted |

bummer. I bought one of the cheap copies although paid around £24 with delivery - but was from a Uk seller and came within 3 days. Havent had chance to use it out yet but it works fine. With low light level however I can confirm it is rubbish. Becomes very sketchy and delayed and blurred. Also has the timestamp which again is a bit cack but I can live with that really.
From the footage ive seen the copies seem fairly good value for money when used in decent light conditions so im looking forward to trying it out.
If I find myself using it regularly Il sell it/give it away and buy a shit hot hd jobbie.
I had a Sony ericcson phone which actually had awesome video capture, even when crudely mounted to my wing mirror. I sold that for £35, looking back id have been better off keeping it to use purely for that reason, bugger. |
