The only 2 outcomes of the general election are labour or conservative win.

So in reality this means fuck all. They are both so similar. Why bother voting?

Why do the BNP have to be so extreme; otherwise i'd vote for them, or is that just bbc anti-bnp bullshit?

I've seen several polls where the public (big majority) want immigration stopped now yet we do fuck all and vote the same cronies in with the same bullshit etc etc etc i could go on. How is change really brought about? How (if it has) happened in other countries (i mean by a democratic voting system).

Sit tight and wait, Pimco has just fired a warning shot across the bow of the UK, if the UK loses its AAA status the UK will default and the IMF will be our government for a few years.

There's also a third possible outcome, a hung parliament.

Labour and Conservatives have pretty different policies, but I'd guessing that you haven't bothered to look at any other their policies before deciding that they're similar?

Why bother voting? Are you happy with the way Gordon Brown and Labour are currently running the country? If you're not going to vote then at least spoil your ballot paper, not voting just says that you don't care. Rolling Eyes

I heard an interesting point on the radio yesterday, about this topic. Another outcome to the usual Labour/Tory 1-2 would be if neither party won a majority. The Lib Dems may not ignite passions in quite the same way, but their party may well be placed to join either 'major' side to create a coalition government. This would alter the normal state of play, so there is a third, non-BNP way to vote, if you so wish.

Hung Parliment = Labour gets into power as the Lib dems will almost certain jump into bed with them.

Hi

Unfortunately I suspect Itchy is right that if the lib dems (or the greens) hold the balance of power then labour will get in.

Only plus point might be if the lib dems made it a condition of a coalition that the voting system changed to PR, which would make the following election more useful (and probably also mean hung parliaments for evermore).

All the best

Keith

How very dare you? The Liberals haven't done anything like that since Jeremy Thorpe's time in charge (apart from Mark Oaten and Simon Hughes of course). Laughing

Taking Government and Politics myself (Britain last year, America at the moment) I can tell you there is a real point in voting.

Like Ste said, if you don't vote, then you don't care.

The main parties are different, it's just at the moment they both have to cut budgets because of Labour's debt so they will seem similar.

I doubt a coalition Government will do this country much good, Britain's political culture is power, we prefer Government to have more power than other democracies because they get things done. America hates power, and believe the state should do the minimum. (Explaining the hatred over Health Care reform, too much power to the state yada yada yada...)
If we have a coalition Government, it will mean both of the half's will have (firstly) choose a policy and then (secondly) agree on it. Oh, and then get it through Parliament.

A coalition doesn't look like a positive outcome at the moment, even though David Cameron has lost some momentum over the last couple of months, I predict the Tories will achieve power.

No reason to, whoever wins you can gurantee the taxes will go up, more taxes will be introduced, more rights suppressed, more immigration, more politicians stealing out of the pot to further their own needs whilst being paid an already extortionate salary to do largely fuck all, more giving tax money to 14yr old whores who spew trolls out of their wretched vaginas, and basically the continued downfall into a mud bog.

Call it labour, call it conservative, it's the same shit in fancy wrapping. Whoever wins, people are still going to complain - when has their ever been a government where the large majority of people had the general opinion of "yeah, he's doing alrite that primeminister"?

Any promises made by any of the parties realistically cannot be fulfilled for 10-15 years with positive effect being seen, and by that time the people are fed up of the current government and so vote another one in, who change everything and the cycle repeats itself.

I guess what is really annoying me is the fact that for the next 6 months or whatever all I'm going to see, read and hear about is the bullshit being spouted by each and every one of them, knowing some people somewhere are lapping it up.

What would happen if no one voted? Not a single person, just out of interest? Wouldnt it be interesting if every voted monster raving loony party, just once, for shits and giggles, and let it run for a couple of weeks. I doubt they could do any worse a job!

Another disagree from me.

What if you do not agree with the whole system itself. If you believe that the whole democracy system is flawed.

By voting you are condoning the system and giving it the go ahead. How would it be possible to vote in good faith when you disagree with the whole system to the core?

If you believe that the whole democratic system is flawed then you'd probably be best moving to a country that isn't based around the idea of democracy. Rolling Eyes

By not voting you're simply saying that you don't care enough to do anything.

If you don't want to vote for one of the big three parties, then you could vote for one of the smaller minority parties who have very different ideas and values. You could spoil your ballot paper, when votes are counted the returning officer has to explain in front of all candidates why a ballot paper is considered to be spoiled, making it an ideal opportunity for you to get your message across to them. You could even vote BNP or UKIP as the more votes those parties get, the clearer it becomes to the big parties that people are bothered about immigration and about being part of the EU.

By not voting you're just saying "I really don't care, I'm just going to stay at home". If you disagree with the whole system to the core then you should do something as there are plenty of options available to you.

Not so sure. They got something like 40% of the votes cast, so about 25% of the possible votes.

All the best

Quite frankly a benign dictatorship would probably be better if it could run for 15-20 years.

In that the problem with Governments right now is that they are uber short term, and therefore create projects which torch the country in the long term for short term gain. Much like businesses who make profits for now but sacrifice tomorrow for this gain.

It doesn't have to be like Fascist Taiwan from 1952 till 1991, or like the PRC communist. Or scary like Singapore. In that Japan effectively had a one party system for 60 years they kept getting re-elected.

Like PFI sure it makes a hospital now but if it costs 25 times it would have cost to pay up in cash then whats the point of that?.

With 20 year time scale you can build all sorts of knarly stuff with longer pay back period times and not worry about your reputation too much.

We have this topic now and again, if you were dictator what would you do (remember Benign so no mass executions!).

You could make some phenominal changes, like double decking the M6 and the M25, At the same time you could probably build an uber fast train network ONTOP of this double deck motorway as well.

Your basing that on the assumption that the parties will actually give a fuck if a few votes here and there are lost, whereas I'd be inclined to believe that the thought pattern would generally be:

"Cripes Gordon, an extra 3000 people have voted for the BNP!!!"
"Yes, but do we still hold the majority"
"Yes"
"Fuck it then, any more money left in the tax pot? I fancy a new duck pond, a 5th house and a new car, tally-ho!"

Politicians and MPs are in it for their own intents and purposes, as a side line they might occasionally do something that benefits a small majority of people in order to give off the impresison they are actually doing their job in the first place. The main motivation is raping the system as much as possible before being collared, after which they will stand down, only to be brought back in a few years later when all is forgiven. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I'd say that was more motivated by "Christ, look at the fucking mess these cunts have made, better keep them in so they can sort this lot out".

I'd say it was motivated by Murdoch telling his retarded readers which way to vote Evil or Very Mad
