why on most bikes (that ive taken apart or seen) is there an engine bolt going through the swingarm and the engine? just fucking stupid IMO. the R6 has the right idea meaning you can actually drop the engine without breaking the bike in half.

any reason? or just shit design.

So they can save the weight of a bolt by giving the swingarm bolt 2 jobs.

If you are talking about the swingarm pivot bolt which goes through the rear of the engine on some bikes.

It puts the swingarm pivot point closer to the drive sprocket which is better for handling as the swingarm can be longer, also makes sure the engine to rear sprocket is inline.

you could just reposition the output shaft. (manufacturers could)
cant be that though, because you could just cut off that shitty waste of time mount and get a bracket on there and the engine doesnt move.

Using the engine as a stressed member removes weight and is cheaper to manufacture considering they dont have to put a bit of frame in there.

Yep, its stronger. You can get the same strength otherwise, but it adds weight.

Personally I would put up with the extra weight.
